I am an experienced researcher, research higher degree supervisor and mentor to early career researchers with extensive knowledge of theoretical and methodological aspects of research.
I support students in identifying and describing the overall narrative and logic of their research: the research problem, theoretical approaches, research design and methods, findings and discussion. In discussing and examining this narrative, I can assist in diagnosing and addressing the problems that underpin blocks and impediments to writing.
I also develop a strong awareness of the audience for the research work students are undertaking and a capacity to incorporate this into writing. I help students see the big picture and the “long game” of the research journey.
I am a social scientist, with a PhD in sociology, over 60 publications and 30 completed research supervisions. I have expertise in research design, applying theory and methods to diverse fields including design, health, education, law, housing, and disability studies. I have been invited to serve on over 100 panels for reviewing the progress of postgraduate students. I have extensive experience in teaching, supervising, mentoring and coaching postgraduate students and early career researchers from diverse disciplines.

I have a lifelong interest in research as a craft and enjoy nurturing capacities in identifying research problems, identifying and describing concepts, theories and methods, conducting and writing up data analysis, and structuring and writing discussion of the findings. I span the worlds of theory and practice and am committed to research that makes a difference to the lives of others. I have published on the learning process involved in research and the challenges of working across disciplines.
