I am a native Arabic speaker and experienced Arabic teacher and language program coordinator. I have over 7 years’ experience developing and delivering stimulating study curricula and social activities for international students of all levels and abilities.
I have extensive experience delivering face-to-face and online classes for both groups and individuals, as well as developing teaching resources, including three recently self-published Arabic language textbooks.
I have also worked in schools teaching and supporting primary and secondary level pupils, including students with special educational needs.
I have a strong academic background, with a BA in Philosophy and Diploma in Teaching and experience as an Arabic-English translator.
I am currently studying Arabic at The University of Edinburgh, and began learning the language a year prior with Carol.
We studied one-on-one and in small groups for a little over three months, and her teaching has been foundational and essential to my current studies; confidently and with no exaggeration, I can say that Carol teaches Levantine dialect to a higher standard than students are exposed to at Edinburgh, at least in their first two years.
After those few months, I was more than capable of communicating basically and effectively in day-to-day situations, and saw students of hers who had been studying longer improving constantly.
I regularly take classes with her to boost my current learning, and the speaking practice and insight into my studies she provides are incredibly valuable. She has profound knowledge not only of Arabic, but of how to make space and collaborate with pupils at a personal level, for them to develop the language in genuinely interesting and immediately useful ways—something which is rare enough to be a treasure, as I am sure other students can appreciate.
Particularly at a time when travel, in-person conversations, and immersion into a foreign language is so difficult, I could not reccomend Carol's teaching, patience, and sincere attention more strongly.
Carol is a professional teacher with years of experience in teaching. She has developed a book of her own with many grammar, reading and listening exercises. Her teaching is very structured and organised. Classes are adapted to my level, I asked to have 1 and a half hour classes and we diversify from speaking to listening and then reading text that we have listened, we do written and spoken exercise. I am very very happy and satisfied with this teaching methodology, and Carol is also super nice
Carol is a super friendly and motivating Arabic teacher. I study with her Arabic dialect and you learn speaking from the very beginning. The lessons are a great mix of conversation, grammar and reading and listening practice. I can recommend Carol to everyone who wants to have fun while learning a language.
I've been taking private lessons with Carol for almost 2 years and she's a great teacher, both for Levantine and standard Arabic. Before I started lessons with her I'd studied by myself but wasn't able to speak. She immediately put me at ease and helped me learn really quickly. She is very flexible and will focus on whatever the students are interested in e.g. conversation, Arabic songs, literature, news. I would highly recommend her and just wish I'd found her earlier.
Carol is an amazing teacher, I highly recommend her for learning Arabic. She's patient, funny, and has a lot of experience teaching Arabic to foreign learners. I wouldnt want to change to anyone else. Highly recommend! :)
I highly recommend Carol as an Arabic teacher! I've been studying Arabic for quite some years now and since taking lessons with Carol my Arabic has improved a lot! The classes are personal and effective, and honestly Carol is just a really fun person to hang out with (also online!). She really looks into the needs of the students and adjusts the program if she thinks it is necessary. Shukran kitir Carol!
I strongly recommend Arabic classes with Carol. She is a passionate teacher with a remarkable ability to explain clearly everything related to the Arabic language, including grammar, vocabulary and expressions. Her patience and positive attitude make you feel immersed in the Arabic language and culture and encourage you to speak freely in the class. Carol helped me discover the beauty of the language in Lebanon, and now we continue to take online courses. Moreover, in the class, we use her own conversation and grammar book as a studying material that is very well written and organized and help me improve my language skills progressively.
Carol is an excellent and dynamic teacher who transmits her love for the Arabic language with great passion. Her classes are always very lively and she knows how to give her students a great motivation to learn. She also adapts the content of the lessons according to the needs of each student. So I highly recommend lessons with Carol, whatever your level is!
Carol is an amazing teacher. She is a passionate teacher and adapts all the materials and classes to your learning style. I have learnt so much with her and really enjoy her classes.
I studied Arabic with Carol for over a year (face-to-face and online) and enjoyed it so much!
She’s a great teacher – she’s really passionate about Arabic and is always flexible and fun in her approach to teaching.
She’s also really kind, relaxed and patient and always happy to take time to explain things carefully and go over things you don’t understand, which I think is so important when you’re learning a new language.
Also, when I was learning with her, she was always producing new materials and activities to help me learn which meant that it was always interesting.
I’d highly recommend learning with Carol!
Carol from BilArabi is an excellent teacher.
Her lessons are fun, but also importantly Carol made sure she understood HOW I learn, so that the topics and teaching techniques were relevant and effective for me, for conversation, vocabulary, reading, pronunciation and grammar.
Having had lessons with Carol my Arabic language skills are the best they have ever been, and I feel excited and capable, rather than frustrated and daunted.
Each lesson we have a great time together learning!
I used to live in Tripoli (Lebanon) where I was the philosophy teacher of the Lycée français. Carol gave me private Arabic levantine lessons, to me and my partner who is also a teacher, and we both were impressed by Carol's ability to communicate her passion for Arabic language, her energy, her kindness and pedagogical intelligence, that allowed us to learn this difficult topic the easy way, and to keep enough motivation to go on until now. Carol is certainly one of the best options you could find if you plan learning or improving your Arabic, and also and above all one fortunate occasion to meet a gem of a person !
It's been 3 years that Carol is my arabic teacher, and she really is the best, in live and online (I'm French).
Firstly, she is really involved in her class and conveys her passion for the language.
Secondly, her pedagogy is really good: there is a conversation part, where she gives you the vocabulary you need, adapted to your use. And then, their is a more formal part: she teaches thanks to very professionnel grammar and conversation books that she brilliantly made herself.
And thirdly, her humanity makes the class really fun and serious at the same time. To sum up, her class is really pleasant and you look forward to having it!
I have been learning Arabic with Carol (on zoom) for the last two years and I recommend her wholeheartedly. She's a passionate teacher, devoted to her students, with a lot of ideas and endless patience. Oh, and she's also a super nice human being.
