I like to tailor my teaching method to each learner. It's important to get to know your students, not just for the sake of getting along, but also because the things I teach often have a real element of passion to them, and that's just as important to pass on as knowledge! I have a real love for the things I teach - especially music and language - and there's so much value to be found in appreciation as well as understanding.
This kind of tailoring isn't necessarily possible when working with groups of students, but I'm a good-natured and approachable kind of guy, so I've never encountered any real problems with tutoring several learners at once. In groups, it can sometimes take longer to strike on the most helpful ways to explain a difficult point to different students, but I'm good at figuring out how it is each learner learns best.
I am a student studying a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. I studied German up to VCE Units 3 & 4, and took two further units of breadth study in my first years at university. My studies has taken me from work in fields like editing, publishing, and research, to script-writing, theatre, and of course, teaching. I am also a qualified music teacher, offering lessons from beginner to advanced levels in trumpet, saxophone, and euphonium, and beginner to intermediate levels in piano, trombone and clarinet.
