Personally, I believe music to be an extremely important part of life, it taps in parts of the soul some might not even know existed.
My lessons will be geared to students who would like to take up a casual hobby, for pleasure, to gain confidence and self-esteem, and/or are willing to learn in a practical sense, as well as students who want or need to tap into that emotional and/or personal aspect of a song, or those who just need a little more technical help.
Although I am not a professional and theoretical aspect of music are not entirely a strong suit for me, as I am self-taught in guitar, knowing only the basics in the keyboard, as well as, mostly self-taught vocally apart from my technical lessons throughout my schooling, I would all the while love to create a comfortable and calm atmosphere for a beginner.
A lesson would start with a discussion with the student, to make them feel comfortable, asking a series of questions about themselves and what they would like to learn. After we will discuss posture and breathing. Then a series of warm-ups, that the student can take to practice during the week. These warm-ups will cover technical skills like vocal dynamics, range extension, high notes, low notes, breathing and pitch exercises, articulation and more. This will also help to see what level the student is at and what their vocal range is. As I only have basic knowledge of piano, I will mostly use karaoke tracks for some exercises. After this, I will have easy songs prepared for the student to learn and take home to practice, while applying what we've learnt in the exercises. Again I will use karaoke tracks and some guitar.
My goal for my students is to love what they do and find confidence in themselves while developing a wonderful skill.
I am a second-year student at the University of Adelaide, studying a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Creative Writing, Media, Film Studies and Marketing. Commencing my university studies early last year, I started with a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music and Creative Technologies, however, I felt I needed to expand my horizons, so I changed my degrees.
Nevertheless, I am still passionate about music and singing, as I have been doing it my whole life, participating in my primary school band and choir for two years, and also choir and solo performance all throughout high school as well as completing the subject of music.
Throughout the last few years of high school, I have had the opportunity to participate in work experience with young children with speech and language disabilities, finding that music is a great implement in that area, and also mentoring and tutoring younger students, assisting in homework, play, and other areas that might help them thrive as a young student.
I would love to work more with children, especially in an area that I love and that has been a crucial part of my life in all aspects. Being able to share that with a younger generation would be deeply satisfying, fulfilling and the ultimate achievement.
