Once we gather a minimum of six members for the group, we start by setting our group goals together. For example, we choose a suitable style and stage layout, identify the purpose of our work and the target audience. We plan everything together. During the meetings, we start with body and voice expression exercises to warm up. After that, we work with the script creation, characters personalities, scenario ideas and roles division. Once we have all set for the piece, we start the rehearsals with a date in mind for the presentation.
I am a Brazilian actress and storyteller who works as a teacher of Portuguese as heritage language here in Brisbane. I have been directing and teaching children's drama groups for the last three years. It is amazing to observe how much children can fastly develop their communication and presentation skills when involved with expressive arts.
To start the group we need a minimum of six members. I will let you know how many members we have by the time you give me a call ;)
The meetings have 1:30h duration, so the fee price covers this time.
The costs with the scenario, costumes and the theatre rent for the presentation will be discussed during the meetings.
Flavia has a Bachelor degree in Biology with a major in teaching. Beyond her academic skills, she was involved with numerous theatrical street productions in her twenties. But it was only fifteen years later when storytelling reemerged as something she wanted to learn more about.
Four years after she moved to Rio de Janeiro, she began to make storytelling a central part of her performance life. Her first professional work as a storyteller was done at a bilingual project she was working with. She showed her talent on a storytelling performance in a literature event, that was so successful that the school invited her again.
Flavia is also a multiple teacher and artist. She taught children's literature, poetry and has mentored the science club all in the same year at her school job. For her first Children's Literature Week, she led the teachers to explore the life and poetry of Manoel de Barros, a significant poet for Brazil's literature.
Flavia has performed at numerous children events and at storytelling festivals throughout the city. She has also participated in the International storytelling festival - Boca do Céu, which happens in São Paulo, Brazil.
She also offers workshops in storytelling, education, and creative drama for children and educators. Some of her recent workshops and classes include a Children drama course in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and nowhere in Brisbane, Australia.
These days you can also find her, completing her Masters in Education and teaching Portuguese as Heritage Language to children in the Brazilian Association in Brisbane. She is preparing herself to travel the state of Queensland at festivals, conferences, schools, and libraries to tell stories and to give workshops for anyone willing to listen to her.
Flavia has been working with Raizes Brasileiras (Brazilian Community Language School in Brisbane) since 2019. She is an excellent professional teacher! She knows techniques and approaches that make the learning process smooth and fun, including and involving everyone in class. She fascinates little and big children with her amazing way to tell stories, instigating all students' curiosity to explore in depth proposed topics. I strongly recommend Flavia for young and adult students of languages and science.
Would definitely recommend Flavia for all ages. She is a great teacher for my 10years old son. My son always comes back from Portuguese classes very excited and I feel that Flavia is good with all the children in the class. The best storyteller I have ever known. Actually, there is a new story I always get in her class and I love her stories. In addition to her deep knowledge of the Portuguese language, Flavia also has an interesting background in the area of science, biology and Brazilian culture. She is very aware of the needs of each child and is also super conscientious to parents anxieties. Flavia is outstanding, creative and patient. You will not regret it. I need two of her :)
As a good language teacher, your job is to put aside the specialized language and explain key language concepts, patterns, and ideas in ways that students can relate to, enjoy, and apply in real-life situations. Flavia is able to do this and guide you with friendly activities that you connect with personally for next-level learning. Absolutely recommended.
Flavia is an amazing teacher, she is great with kids and also adults. She has a solid teaching background and for sure can help you.
