I have always planned lessons and units of work grounded in skills dictated by curriculum progressions and lessons always display a "Learning Intention" with student and parent friendly "Success Criteria". Often in a Drama class, I will assign students with a checklist outlining the necessary skills shown through their work. I think that assessment is ongoing and must involve the student, either by way of self reflection or peer reviewing. I think that it is paramount for learning to show purpose and relevance for anyone I am teaching. Feedback is complemented by an inherent understanding of the student and their best learning method, for older students I assign the Multiple Intelligences Test to assist with study and work methods.
A passionate educator and leader with extensive experience both in teaching and journalism, I have the drive, ambition and ability to work effectively to facilitate programs that improve and deepen the student experience and set them on the path to becoming global citizens. Up to date with all current education initiatives, I am dedicated to incorporating the latest technologies and thinking into my planning to make the learning exciting, relevant and interesting for all students regardless of ability or learning styles. I firmly believe in a student-centred approach and in working with all stakeholders to strategically plan for continual improvement. Possessing a strong skill set, I bring a commitment to best practice, and the drive to continually review and enhance my teaching within the modern classroom to ensure superior levels of student success and satisfaction.
A lifelong learner, I believe in always seeking to improve and add to the opportunities offered to pupils. We cannot predict the jobs and experiences that will be available for our pupils in the future and therefore I believe we need to encourage a growth mindset where they learn to take risks in their learning and to embrace all positive opportunities. My qualifications and journalism experience not only provides me with a complete understanding of the English language and how to teach it, but I also have a practical understanding of how it can be used to influence change in our world and I love to bring this knowledge into the classroom to illustrate the benefits of the learning taking place. Ideally, I would consider myself to be what I have dubbed the "Sultana Bran Teacher" - dating back to the old ads, "don't tell them it's healthy and they'll eat it by the boxful..." so that I want kids to engage with learning without explicit awareness of it. However, I clarify the objective and purposes directed in my lesson planning.
I am an enthusiastic and energetic teacher with a natural rapport with (almost!) all of my past students. I discvoered this affinity with children from very early on and was a babysitter and part time nanny whilst completing my Bachelor of Arts in Newcastle.
I also offer a wealth of different work and life experiences and will always indulge displays of inherent curiosity by answering any appropriate studnet's questions. I also
