As an instructor, my primary motivation for teaching is to help students learn the material in a meaningful and active way. I believe that shaping my students into active learners and participators in the course allows students to engage in an experiential way with the material, and I have found this to enhance both their individual initiative and enthusiasm for learning. Bringing energy and enthusiasm into my lectures and lesson plans is a fundamental part of my teaching process and philosophy.
I believe in education through learning-centered institutions which gear efforts toward enhancing student comprehension of curriculum. In terms of teaching methodology, I structure my courses for students around readings of the textbook chapters with corresponding Reading Assignments to facilitate true reading engagement with the material. In class, I use a combination of short lectures, class discussions, and group activities to inspire and engage my students week by week.
I am a community college instructor of seven years, teaching American Government and International Relations at Valencia College and Seminole State College. I also possess two years of public school teaching experience at the Middle School level. I create and teach lesson plans to a wide variety of students, with varying backgrounds and age ranges. In addition, I am enrolled in UCF's Initial Teacher Professional Preparation Certificate program to take formal teaching classes and gained invaluable experience and knowledge in teaching methods, assessment, and pedagogy that I have brought with me into the classroom.
