ESL IELTS PTE & English lessons at affordable rates in Australia from Certified teaching professional!

Methodology

I base my lessons on the students' target score and areas of interest. My lessons are fun and interactive with major focus on student involvement. I want my students to learn to use the language naturally in conversations and my approach is to train them to use the language in their everyday life rather than focus entirely on passing an examination. Natural usage always leads to high scores!

Solip

Perfect! Manny is best tutor.
She always prepare a lot of materials and give useful information about English language.
She has taught me from basic grammar to very details of pronunciations.
She is very kind as well!

Maany's response

Solip is very enthusiastic and inquisitive about learning new aspects of the English language. Even though she already has a strong foundation of grammar, we go through them in some classes to enable her to learn English passively while refreshing grammar. This has helped her work on her overall vocabulary and pronunciation. If she focuses on developing her English naturally and at the right pace, I am sure she will be a successful English-speaking professional in the future.

Roya

Perfect! Manny is very capable and competent English tutor. In first session she would quickly recognize her student strengths and weaknesses and give precise feedbacks. Manny manage the time and the content for each session perfectly so that the student would be satisfied with their learning experience at the end. She is also flexible with the time and the teaching site. Overall I am so happy with Manny's teaching performance and recommend her to those who are looking for a high quality excellent English teacher. Thank you so much Manny.

Maany's response

Roya came to me to work on IELTS. She is already doing well in terms of her speaking but we had to focus quite a bit on listening and writing. After our first few lessons, she had a chance to retake her exam and given her preference, she has decided to test out studying the format of PTE. I am sure she can get her target score of 70 if she works towards it and books her exam once she is confident with her skills.

Evgeny

Perfect! I came Maany for some help with my accent. She was very quick to respond and we started studying in no time. After our introductory lesson she tailored classes around areas I needed to work the most: intonation, stress and pauses. She also said that I need to work on my “w” and “au” sounds. She prepares all the material beforehand and explains everything in easy to understand manner.
I enjoy working with her because she is very knowledgable, attentive and easy-going and I get to learn something new every time. I can recommend Maany to anybody who needs to improve their English.

Maany's response

Evgeny is very hard working and comes to his lessons with an open mindset to learn. Even though he has had prior experience with English pronounciation and grammar, he is very mature to learn them in a new format or in a new light which I appreciate. He just needs to work on his rise and fall and vowel sounds to be sounding just like a native speaker. He has progressed so much already so I am sure he is always getting one step closer to achieving his goal!

Maany was one of my colleges at an English Coaching Academy ( name not to be disclosed). She was popular for being the favorite teacher by all her students because of her uncanny ability to form a very strong student -teacher relationship, judge the students current skill sets and come up customized teaching plans to suit their individual needs.

Being a natural pedagogue and also blessed with a good sense of humor her teaching style focuses on student participation and providing anecdotal references for various scenarios to establish a solid foundation of complex grammatical concepts.

She also has a thorough grasp of requirements of various English exams like PTE and IELTS(General & Academic).

I highly recommend Maany to other superprof members and hope to most of you guys have the privilege of experiencing learning English from Maany.

Interview with Maany

QUESTION 01 | 10
When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
Maany — I had always been a good story-teller, even as a child. I developed a passion for teaching as I enjoy sharing stories and experiences with my family and friends. My previous experience working in a teaching academy exposed to me, some of the challenges my students were facing with group classes. I felt inefficient and constrained, not being able to invest time into each of my students’ personal development. That was the turning point when I decided to spend my time in private tutoring, where I could work with my students with individual attention and personalized lesson plans.
QUESTION 02 | 10
Tell us more about what you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
Maany — I teach English to non-native English speakers who want to improve their general English, or those who are preparing specifically for an English exam like IELTS or PTE. I always encourage my students to discuss their long-term goals with me, so that it enables me to see what motivates them in life. I also am interested to understand their background. The hardest topic to teach and discuss has always been English Grammar. I try my best to make it encouraging and fun when I can, so that my students don’t doze off by the end!
QUESTION 03 | 10
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
Maany — My role model when it comes to teaching had always been my mom who is a professor of the Tamil language. I learnt from her, that language and literature required a certain art to teaching, one simply cannot teach a language if they don’t full enjoy the nuances of it themselves. She had also inspired me to pursue what I love, even if it meant I need to invest some extra time into it.
QUESTION 04 | 10
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
Maany — I think the most important quality to be a successful tutor is resilience. I think some of you might find this hard to believe, but as a teacher, I never give up on my students. I think everyone has their own pace of learning, some slower than others. Having said that, I think the tutor’s patience to stay with their students through this learning journey, constantly encouraging them, despite the mistakes and the misconceptions, really defines a good teacher.
QUESTION 05 | 10
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
Maany — ‘Everyone can be Shakespeare’
QUESTION 06 | 10
What is the main difficulty in learning English and what can help the process of learning?
Maany — English language has no rule-book, there’s always exceptions to every grammatical rule. The biggest challenge, that I still struggle with, is to ignore the rule and accept the exceptions. I tell my students, if there are no exceptions, there is no beauty in English.

Another difficulty I think is to fully understand the many colloquial aspects of the language. The vastness of its usage also means that English is spoken differently in different continents with expressions which probably would not make any sense in other regions. As a non-native speaker, this is the hardest aspect of learning the language.
QUESTION 07 | 10
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
Maany — I love teaching in general, but I am particularly passionate about teaching English writing. Being a writer myself, I tend to enjoy the thought processes I go through, the mid maps I create, before I begin writing. To be able to share this with my students makes it a rewarding experience.
QUESTION 08 | 10
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?
Maany — I am a Superprof because I believe every student can improve some aspect of themselves 😊
QUESTION 09 | 10
Did you grow up speaking this language? Or were you inspired by a trip abroad, an individual or a certain aspect of the culture?
Maany — I grew up speaking Tamil at home, but my entire schooling from kindergarten onward was in English. In that way, I could say I enjoyed the best of both worlds. Grounded in my own tradition, I got to explore the ideals and cultural beliefs of some of my favorite English authors too.
QUESTION 10 | 10
Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?
Maany — William Wordsworth, if you read his poem ‘Daffodils’, you will know why 😊
