- I teach children from Prep to VCE and adults of all ages.
- I encourage parents to be actively involved in their children’s music education which is now much easier with online learning. It enables them to be productively involved in practice sessions which the children really love! The parents enjoy it, too!
- I've also worked extensively with adults of all ages & backgrounds, discovering that the commonly-held belief that adults do not learn as fast or as well as children is a myth - research supports my observations! My adult students never cease to amaze me in how quickly, enthusiastically & soundly they develop new & challenging skills. I have found that, with their extensive life experience, they have an excellent capacity for relating new skills to those they already have in other areas.
I have taught and played the violin for many years and am currently very involved in online teaching, largely due to our current COVID-19 situation. I have a passion for teaching music, backed up by many years’ teaching experience gained mainly in Melbourne's private school system as well as at my studio in Melbourne's eastern suburbs.
I have a relaxed, but structured approach to teaching, with my primary goal for all my students being, most importantly, to enjoy their playing while developing sound technique and expanding their knowledge base.
I provide 45-minute lessons for students up to the end of Grade 4 for which I charge $66 and, for students from Grade 5 onwards, I provide 60-minute lessons for which I charge $88.
I undertook my studies at the University of Melbourne Conservatorium of Music where, at the end of my first year of study, I was awarded the Ormond Exhibition & the Florence Bradford Scholarship. I studied violin with Nathan Gutman, John Glickman & I also had the good fortune to learn from Christopher Martin. During my studies, I developed an enduring love of chamber music & undertook study in this area with Chris Martin & the world-renowned cellist, John Kennedy - father of the flamboyant, highly entertaining violinist, Nigel Kennedy. After graduating, I joined the State Orchestra of Victoria but, because I wanted to travel & broaden my musical horizons, I moved on to working as a freelance orchestral violinist. I also became more involved in teaching, establishing my home studio in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne & working at various private schools in Melbourne's eastern suburbs - Ruyton Girls’ School, Lauriston Girls’ School, Firbank Grammar School, Penleigh P.L.C., Eltham College & Caulfield Grammar School, to name a few. My interest & enjoyment of teaching grew &, ultimately, I found myself doing much more teaching than performing. I've taught children from Prep to VCE in the school system & also at my private studio.
