About Francesca
Hello! My name is Francesca and I am a British-born French-American, otherwise known as a "third culture kid". I am currently pursuing a master's degree in social science from the University of Cambridge and am passionate about helping young people. Growing up in an international school that combined the French and American education systems, I learned to speak French fluently and achieve the baccalaureate. I still help my parents with pronunciation, grammar and preparing what to say before appointments, so I know how frustrating it can be to learn a language!
I have a few years of experience supporting young people as a tutor and a mentor. I tutored French, English and basic Spanish during high school. During my bachelor's degree at the University of Bristol, I worked as an assistant teacher helping year 9, 10 and 11s prepare for their French GCSE. I am also currently a support worker for university students who like extra support during classes due to a disability. Finally, pre-pandemic, I spent two summers working at NCS The Challenge as a team mentor, leading a group of adolescents through an interactive curriculum that focuses on personal development and civic engagement.

I am happy to tailor your needs and style of learning to your goals! Personally, I am a visual learner that learns best through speaking rather than writing. Having gone through a harsher French educational system, I value making the client comfortable and confident in developing their French skills. I will be an extra source of support in your learning!
In the past, I have prepared some vocabulary, expressions and exercises to practice writing about a topic. of the client's choice, which applies to students and adults. For those that want to practice speaking and pronunciation, I have also previously written out a reference to important vocabulary while we have a conversation. I am also happy to discuss what a student is doing in their French lessons at school and to go over their exercises. This is most frequently what I did as a teaching assistant for year 9, 10, and 11 learning French for GCSEs.
