I will design my approach based on your French level.
I will include an inductive and deductive teaching approach.
~ An inductive approach introduces the learner to the grammar rules first and then practice after.
~ A deductive approach begins with practice first, and then asks the learner to discover patterns and rules for themselves after.
Both of these teaching and learning styles are equally successful.
I believe grammar cannot be entirely avoided, however I strive to keep the grammar I deliver relevant and in conjunction with practical application.
Input (listening + reading) and output (written + spoken) are all integral to a thorough understanding of language. I will take a holistic approach and provide material that develops all these skills.
I will build my students vision of themselves as future proficient French speakers. Students will be encouraged to find an aspect of French language or culture that they are interested in. Whether it be music, history, cooking, literature + film.... languages become fun when you find an interest in the culture!
Finally, I work collaboratively with my students. I want input from you, so please come to me with recommendations or ideas!
Hi there! My name is Julia and I am a language student at The Australian National University. I study Arabic, French and Spanish. When I was 16 years old I undertook a student exchange for one year in France. I left for my exchange with a limited capacity to converse in French, and I returned a confident and fluent speaker of the language. I have experience with the difficulties of second language acquisition. I know how overwhelming it can be! My goal is to build your confidence to speak, through delivering meaningful lessons and sharing cultural resources that make learning fun!
I am excited to share my knowledge and love for French language and culture with you!:)
My rate will depend on distance travelled to students home. If students travel to my home rate will be fixed at 40$ /h
2016 ~ Exchange to France with Student Exchange Australia New Zealand (SEANZ)
~ returned student advisor for SEANZ. I supported students before and during their exchange.
2018 ~ HSC French
2019 to Current ~ Australian National University
~ minor in French language and culture
Perfect! Julia connects wonderfully with our daughter and is very professional. She comes to each lesson having thoughtfully prepared her teaching material and delivers it in a way that makes learning fun. Thanks Julia!
