  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My fascination with geography started during my early school years, fueled by a curiosity to understand the world and a desire to explore different cultures through travel. During this time, I also discovered an ability to explain concepts to classmates, which eventually led to my interest in private tutoring.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I'm passionate about both physical and human geography, particularly globalisation, culture, and development. I enjoy discussing topics like the interconnectedness of economies and cultures in globalisation, the diversity of cultural landscapes, and the spatial patterns of development and inequality. These discussions help students understand complex global issues and appreciate the diversity of human geography.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

In college, Mr Vince was a remarkable role model. His passion for teaching and expertise inspired me deeply. With a dynamic teaching style, he made complex concepts accessible and fostered a supportive learning environment. He instilled in me a lasting appreciation for the subject and a commitment to excellence in education.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

To be a good tutor, qualities like patience, adaptability, strong communication skills, empathy, and subject expertise are essential. Patience helps in understanding students' learning pace, while adaptability allows for adjusting teaching methods to suit individual needs. Effective communication fosters clear understanding, while empathy builds rapport and trust with students. Lastly, subject expertise ensures accurate guidance and valuable insights.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my university years, I joined a geography field trip to Marrakesh and the Atlas Mountains. In Marrakesh, we explored the bustling souks and vibrant culture, while in the Atlas Mountains, we trekked through rugged terrain and visited a Berber village. Our lecturer's passion for geography and hands-on learning made the trip unforgettable, deepening my appreciation for diverse landscapes and cultures.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge in teaching geography is keeping content relevant and contemporary amidst evolving global issues and technologies. Addressing diverse student backgrounds and learning needs also requires adaptability. Additionally, integrating interdisciplinary perspectives, like economics and environmental science, is essential but complex.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in both teaching and the subject matter itself. I find great fulfilment in helping students discover the intricacies of geography and fostering their curiosity about the world. Moreover, I'm deeply passionate about environmental sustainability and promoting global awareness. This passion drives my dedication to instilling in students a sense of responsibility for our planet and its diverse cultures.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

What makes me a Superprof is my dedication to providing personalised, engaging, and effective tutoring experiences for each student. I tailor my teaching approach to meet the unique needs and learning styles of my students, ensuring that they not only understand the subject matter but also develop critical thinking skills and a genuine passion for geography. Through clear communication, empathy, and a commitment to excellence, I strive to empower my students to achieve their academic goals and beyond.
