I came from Malaysia who speaks multiple languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Malay and English. I have learned Mandarin since I was seven years old. Learning Chinese character is really tough at the beginning. I find that some of the children struggle to write Chinese characters because of strokes. After a while, with practices and revision, I believe it will become easier soon. The lesson structure might consist of pronunciation, reading, written exercise and listening. I prefer to use objects or experience to explain the context so that children could understand better. If necessary, I could prepare some homework as a revision. I would also try to discover an effective way for students to learn a new language. The reason I would like to teach primary school children is because children learn faster than adults. The younger the children, the more enthusiastic they are, the better the learning outcome.
I have no teaching background in the past but during my free time in Malaysia, my brothers and sisters always come to me and ask for homework assistance at the point where they are confused and stuck. The way I teach them is firstly ask them to read out loud the question and explain the question to me. Then, I would ask their opinions on how to answer the questions. If the questions are hard to solve, I would demonstrate and explain the meaning behind the answers. Next, I would ask them to answer another model similar to the one my siblings are struggling with, to assess whether they are fully understood.
