The principal aim of my teaching is to introduce students to a range of tailored resources and research/study/writing methodologies, and to encourage critical thinking beyond mainstream educational paradigms and practices. My teaching is informed by various inter-disciplinary styles, and I constantly consult a wide range of academic and popular resources so as to develop an innovative and critically informed approach to learning and teaching. I aim to cultivate a culture of life-long learning amongst my students, with a major focus on 'real-world' applications of knowledge, underpinned by an ethos of compassion and social awareness.
My main academic interests lie in qualitative research methods, applied ethics, and critical theoretical approaches to the exploration of contemporary social issues.
As a qualified FET-level English teacher – both first and first additional language – I am particularly attuned to the role that language plays in teaching and learning. I am able to adapt complex resources to meet the needs of first additional language speakers, and have taught in diverse linguistic and cultural settings.
I have presented both personal and professional research at various national and international conferences, and have been a first and co-author on research reports, book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. I have served as a referee/reviewer for internationally accredited, peer-review journals.
