About Suraj
Hello! I'm a passionate and dedicated 3D animation instructor with a deep love for both the technical and creative aspects of animation. With years of experience in the field, I specialize in guiding students through the exciting world of 3D animation, from the basics of 3d modeling, texturing, lighting, and rendering.
I believe that animation is more than just a technical skill—it's a way to tell stories, express ideas, and bring imagination to life. That's why my approach combines industry-standard techniques with creative freedom, ensuring that every student not only masters the tools of the trade but also develops their own unique artistic style.
In my classes, you can expect a hands-on, interactive learning experience where we break down complex concepts into manageable steps. I prioritize making sure that each student is comfortable with the software, whether they're learning Cinema4D, Octane Render, or other 3D animation programs. Through real-time demonstrations, personalized feedback, and practical projects, I encourage students to explore their creativity and push the boundaries of what they can achieve.
Whether you're a beginner exploring animation for the first time or an experienced creator looking to refine your skills, my goal is to provide the guidance and support you need to succeed. I’m committed to helping you develop both your technical abilities and your creative voice, preparing you for real-world animation challenges and opportunities.
Let's create something amazing together!

Teaching Techniques and Methods for 3D Animation:
- Foundational Skills First:
I start with the fundamentals of 3D animation software (e.g., Cinema 4D, Octane Render, Marvelous Designer, After Effects, Zbrush, Photoshop, etc). I ensure that students are comfortable navigating the interface, using essential tools, and understanding the basic concepts like 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, and rigging.
I also emphasize the principles of animation (such as timing, spacing, squash and stretch, anticipation, etc.), which are core to creating believable animations.
- Step-by-Step Live classes:
I break down complex tasks into smaller, digestible steps. For example, instead of diving straight into animating a full character, I might start by teaching how to create a simple object (like a bouncing ball) to help students understand the basic principles before scaling up to more advanced animations.
I walk students through the creation of simple scenes or animations, highlighting important techniques such as keyframe animation, camera movement, and lighting setup.
- Hands-On Projects:
I emphasize practical learning, where students create their own animations. They might start with simple objects (such as animating a bouncing ball) and progress to more complex tasks like rigging and animating characters or creating short animated scenes.
Feedback is essential here. I encourage students to iterate on their projects, make adjustments, and experiment with new techniques.
- Real-World Application:
I use industry-standard workflows and best practices to help students understand how animation fits into the larger process of production such as:
- Storyboarding
- Pre-Visualization
- 3D Modeling
- Texturing
- UV mapping
- Environment Design
- Rendering
- Motion Graphics
- Particles Simulation (Dynamics)
- Sculpting
- Compositing
I also discuss topics like rendering and post-production (editing, compositing), as these are vital skills for creating polished, professional-quality animations.
- Critiques and Feedback:
Regular constructive feedback is a big part of my approach. I encourage students to review each other's work and give feedback, which builds their critical thinking and eye for detail.
I also provide one-on-one critiques to help them understand how they can refine their animations, focusing on improving things like weight, timing, and expression.
- Exploration of Different Styles:
While focusing on technical skills, I also encourage students to explore different animation styles—cartoony, realistic, experimental, etc. This helps them develop their own voice as animators and understand how to adjust techniques based on the desired outcome.
Usual Structure of a 3D Animation Class:
- Introduction and Overview:
I begin each lesson by reviewing what was covered previously, followed by introducing the new topic. For example, we might start with an overview of animation principles and then move on to 3D modeling techniques, lighting, or rigging.
- Demonstration and Explanation:
I demonstrate techniques step-by-step, explaining each part of the process as I go. For example, if we're working on a walk cycle, I'll demonstrate how to set up the initial keyframes, adjust the timing, and tweak the pose to create smooth motion.
I explain the reasoning behind each technique and how it contributes to the final animation.
- Guided Practice:
After the demonstration, students get hands-on practice while I’m available to assist. I walk around (or provide guidance in real-time) to help students with issues they encounter, such as problems with keyframing.
- Independent Work and Assignment:
Students work on their own projects or assignments, applying the skills learned in class. For example, they may create an animation of an object interacting with the environment, or create a short animated sequence using their own characters.
- Critique and Review:
At the end of the class, I hold a critique session where students present their work. This could be a “show and tell” where everyone gets a chance to demonstrate their progress, followed by feedback from me and their peers.
I offer both general comments and specific, actionable advice for improving their work.
- Homework/Extended Projects:
For homework, I may assign students more advanced tasks like animating a short scene, working on textures, or integrating sound into their animations. These assignments help solidify the concepts covered in class and allow students to build a portfolio of work.
Special Features as a 3D Animation Teacher:
- Industry Experience: I share industry practices, tips, and insights. Whether it's about the latest animation software or the process of working on an animation team, I make sure students understand the larger context in which 3D animation exists.
- Creative Freedom: While I emphasize mastering the technical side of animation, I also encourage students to experiment with their own creativity. I give them the freedom to explore different animation genres and tell their own stories through their work.
- Visualization and Real-Time Feedback: I may also employ real-time rendering or simulation software to help students see how their animation looks in different contexts, enabling them to understand the importance of factors like lighting and camera work.
- Personalized Learning: Given that 3D animation has a steep learning curve, I adjust my pace and support based on each student's progress. For those who advance more quickly, I introduce additional challenges or more complex techniques, while I provide extra help to students who need more time to master the basics.
Intended Audience:
- School Children: Younger students who have an interest in animation can start with basic software tools (like After Effects, Photoshop, or Element 3D) and build their way up. I would focus on simple animations and fun projects to get them excited about the possibilities of animation.
- College-Level Students: I would go deeper into the technical aspects of 3D animation, including character modeling, rigging, advanced rendering techniques, and scene composition. This would prepare students for professional work in the animation, gaming, or film industries.
- Adults and Professionals: For adults or professionals wanting to transition into 3D animation, I focus on refining their technical skills while encouraging creative expression. I would cover topics like portfolio development, freelancing in the animation industry, and keeping up with new software updates and tools.
In summary, my approach to teaching 3D animation is designed to balance technical skills with creativity. I guide students through the complexities of animation while encouraging them to find their own unique artistic voice. Through structured lessons, hands-on practice, and constructive feedback, I help students develop both their technical and creative abilities in the world of 3D animation.
