When I sit down with a student, I want to seem like a role model to them. A student is far more likely to listen and respect me if they look up to me. Aside from this, student learning is my absolute focus. I do not care for the content I want to teach, only what they need to learn. I see my lessons as a leg to stand on for the student to get ahead of their class and my lessons are more reactionary and supplementary to the student's learning in class than anything. However, if a parent desires more, I can create dedicated lessons to future topics or study skills.
I'm a student doing a bachelor of education with a major in mathematics. I love teaching and what I know best is maths so I've been doing private tutoring lessons since 2016. Though I haven't just stuck to maths, having taught HASS and science to a couple of students, I do prefer the subject as I have studied it to a university level.
If a student was to come to me, I would reduce the rate. Otherwise, $40 is what I charge for in-home tutoring.
