About the lesson
I created interdisciplinary and multicultural lesson plans tailored to different student’s background. I have also been highlighted due to foster a positive classroom environment with mutual respect and consideration as collective goals and critical thinking and analysis about art and society.
- All Levels
I am a physicist from Colombia, but I moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 2018. I hold a Bachelor Degree and a Master degree. I worked as a researcher studying the structure, and the electric and magnetic behaviour of new materials. I've been teaching physics and maths since 2002 when I was finishing high school. I was usually teaching my classmates and since then I realized my passion for teaching and helping others to learn.
While I was studying for my bachelor, I started a Tutors Network made up of many teachers who were around the city tutoring all subjects and all levels. It was amazing because I had the chance to teach and enlighten students in school, university and also people older than me who struggled in different topics.
I was the head of the physics area in a prestigious School in Colombia where I taught physics to High School students. I saw seven generations of students successfully graduated and many of them have finished or are studying science or engineering-related careers. I created and support a Physics and Astronomy Club, engineering and science projects, chess club, fairy science and besides I directed a music band and choir which participated in many events.
I love experimental classes and practical lessons, for example, if you want to learn about the waves we can use music as a bridge or sports to study mechanics. To me, the most important things about learning any subject are being clear on your goals and keeping up your motivation. That is why I bring the topics to earth using real-life examples to make the concepts clearer.
I have a very driven teaching style I act as a learning coach giving you tips and teaching you how to study on your own. I usually try to answer the question of why are you learning this? and how far you can reach. I start the first lesson by going over your goals and checking your current level, especially your weaknesses but also your strengths. This helps us manage expectations and keeps us on track for future lessons and learning plans. I create interdisciplinary and fun lesson plans tailored to different students' backgrounds. I have also been highlighted due to foster a positive learning environment with mutual respect and critical thinking and analysis of art and society.
I can break down complicated topics in maths and physics into simpler, straightforward ideas. You can bring any topic you are struggling in and we will work on it together or you can ask for a specific topic and I'll prepare a lesson for you. In my lessons, I usually use google docs, screen sharing, pdf textbooks, and free online resources like applets or videos. I prefer to give out homework for you to do in your own time and we will check it at the beginning of the next lesson.
If you are looking for a friendly, experienced, and very patient teacher to expand your knowledge and skills in physics and maths, I could be the one for you. I can assist you with all topics at any level. Let's contact me, I look forward to seeing you soon!
Perfect! Jhon helped my son out. After an hour he came away feeling much more confident about his upcoming exam. Thanks Jhon
Perfect! Jhon was a great physics tutor that helped me to understand a broad range of topics while I am studying aviation physics. For any concept that I had trouble with, he was able to explain it clearly and always made sure that I had fully understood it. I was able to ask any question comfortably and, for the topics that I struggled in, he was able to tailor the materials so that I got the most out of the sessions. He really helped me boost my confidence in physics. I would highly recommend him.
- Jhon's response : Guy is an excellent student, we went through different fields of physics such as classical mechanics, fluids and thermodynamics. Just need to keep practising. A good person with big goals and dreams.
Perfect! Jhon has a very good understanding of mathematics and quantum physics.
He tailors each lesson to cater for my curiosity on a wide range of topics and helps me learn Mathematica while studying quantum physics.
I look forward to building a quantum computer with Jhon while completing my PhD.
I've let the Nobel prize committee know our postal address! :-)
- Jhon's response : He is a great learner with entrepreneurial nature, thirst for knowledge and high commitment. We studied advanced maths and programming to travel through Quantum Mechanics. We will hopefully build a quantum computer.

He's an excellent teacher
Teacher John is an excellent teacher, he’s is a very good person and I recommend him, he helped my son with some subjects some time ago
Explains well, has a good method, produces good academic and knowledge results
Jhon was my teacher at high school and I love how he teach. He is pretty patient and explains everything step by step. He focuses on teaching the intuition behind everything and that makes the class so valuable.
An excellent teacher. Full of creativity to share knowledge, he is didactic and adapts to different teaching methods. He is without a doubt one of the best teachers I know.
Jhon Baron is an excellent teacher. He explains in detail everything about physics and mathematics. Solve all doubts, have a lot of patience and creates a very pleasant environment to have class.
Jhon is an outstanding physics and maths teacher. His experience and skills can be tested with the high complexity of the problems put in front of him. Besides he is a great person which made me want to keep studying with him. Highly recommended!
Jhon has been a patient teacher, he makes the classes easy and dynamic. Since he stared teaching me, my classes have gotten so much easier

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and private tutoring?
When I was in high school maths and science, in general, were the easy subject for me. I was told by my teachers to support my classmates and I think that since 8th or 9th grade I started to be kind of a tutor for my friends. Social sciences though were my week side and so they helped me a lot as well. When I started Uni, It was a good way for me to get some extra money, however about midway I got so many students that I couldn't handle them, they sometimes asked me for extra time and for other subjects. Then set a small group of teachers in different areas that were around the city tutoring. Since then I haven't stopped teaching and supporting students. Now with the internet, I can do it all over the world, although I have had mini breaks due to research and travelling.
Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss with students (possibly those you like a little less).
I teach mostly physics, maths and chemistry to students in the last years of high school or almost any high university-level students. I have taught small kids in primary school, however, I think I have a better vibe with the big ones and mature people.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I remember that my physics teacher was Fernel and nobody liked him because he was really mean and cranky during the lessons. However I remember that he explained really well and his voice was really strong, he seemed to be yelling all the time, but that was his way to keep the class quiet and paying attention.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
A good tutor needs a connection with the student. It is not knowing the topics well and understanding the way the students think and making them feel confident to ask and make mistakes. Learning is a journey and teachers and tutors need to build motivation that makes them create or discover their own way to learn.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
I would say that I decided to study physics in 10th grade when I had to do a project in holography. I went to the National University to find information about it and I had a chat with some of the physicists that later on were my teachers in my bachelor. They just showed me the labs and the projects they were working on at that time.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?
There were many difficult subjects and teachers in my bachelor and master. Of course, there were many topics that I had to read and practice heaps of times. I remember one special subject that was really hard for me it was called Topology. It is a really formal and abstract mathematical way to study simple things. However, it is a different and advanced way of reasoning.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
Teaching, learning and researching are my main passions and my profession. Nevertheless, music is my hobby and my other occupation. I have been in different bands and music groups playing guitar, charango, flute, quena and different percussion instruments. I also do guitar lessons if you are interested.
What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?
More than 15 years of experience teaching, mentoring and tutoring.
