I always teach every student on an individual basis. Even within group lessons. I try to find the areas that most enthuse you as a student and focus on that direction whilst offering guidance towards other areas that may not be as familiar or as comfortable. Of course it goes without saying that lessons must be fun and engaging, I put as much energy as I can into every lesson as I believe this again can invigorate students to access the lessons and get the most out of them. There is always an element of challenge, learning new skills is never easy, using a sense of togetherness I hope to join you on your journey of discovery. Its one that I am definitely still on myself. I hope this excites you and id love to hear from you whether you're just starting on the journey, returning after a break or looking for another perspective, I believe I can help.
Hi,
My name is Simon and I have been teaching for 10 + years now. I started teaching when I was 19 in a PRU, a centre for those who had been kicked out of mainstream education due to social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Here I was teaching in small groups, no bigger than 8, a broad range of subjects including Maths, Science, English, ICT, Physical Education and Music. I worked here for 3 years before moving into a Mainstream school where I became a teacher of Maths and Music. Fast forward 4 years and I decided to leave the school setting to focus on peripatetic instrument teaching. This coupled with touring and playing in my originals act across the UK, Europe and Asia helped develop my personal playing and enthusiasm for instrument playing. The last year has seen me work across multiple schools in the Kent (southeast England) , alongside varying different abilities and ages. I have taught Drums, Guitar and vocals on a peripatetic basis usually on a one to one basis. I also have delivered music curriculum to primary and secondary school ages, often specialising in teaching those with a specific need, including working with young people on the autistic spectrum, those with physical disabilities or those kicked out of mainstream due to behavioural issues. I believe music is a gateway for everyone and everyone should have fair access to teaching. I have taken many students through different exams including ABRSM (Guitar), Rockschool (Guitar/Drums), Trinity (Guitar/Drums). However I do believe that exams do not make a player great and they are not right for every student. However they can give you a clear focus and goal which is always good in an ever busying world.
Its $40 p/h but depending on experience and age I may suggest shorter lessons.

I used to work with Simon at a special educational school, in Kent. I teach drama and he taught music! Every single student (and colleague) absolutely adored Simon and his natural way of teaching. Whether in 1-2-1 sessions or group lessons he would engage each student and help their imagination flow, encouraging them to find their own sound. Not only is he practically very talented, his knowledge of theory and musical history exceeds all expectations. His passion and creativity shines when delivering a lesson, making them fun and interactive, in a safe and welcoming environment, breaking away any inhibitions students may have. He is very personable and reliable, welcoming all ages and abilities into his lessons and making them feel at ease.
Very experienced in his field; he is an inspiration to young people who love music and it was an honour to have taught next to him.
Simon taught my son for about a year before he moved to Australia. He is a great teacher very reliable such a positive friendly person you would want teaching your child I would recommend him in a heartbeat.
Simon worked for my music teaching company in Kent. He was an outstanding teacher and great colleague. He threw himself into many different challenges and was always enthusiastic, positive and creative. I highly recommend Simon for any music teaching post!
Simon is a fantastic musician who has an incredible gift for sharing his knowledge with others. Not only is Simon a superb musician and teacher, he is also an incredible person which makes the learning experience that much more enjoyable. If you're looking for music lessons you'd be hard pushed to find anyone better. 10/10
Simon and I worked together at a secondary school in the UK (11-19 year olds). During that time, he worked as a mentor for students of all ability ranges who were struggling in school for a variety of reasons. His calm, friendly manner meant that he very quickly became a respected and valuable member of our staff. He builds positive working relationships with students very quickly and can get amazing results because of this.
Plus, he is an amazing multi-instrumentalist. On top of his very full workload, he volunteered with our music department. He helped students from complete novices to those who were already very accomplished, and he supported and challenged each one of them.
If you have the opportunity to work with him, you are really very lucky.
Top rate musician. Knowledgable and reliable. Would highly recommend.
