I am a big believer in understanding the principles and foundations and practically applying them in a piece working from general to specific. If you have a good grasp of the basics the rest is simple. Also, studied practice is something everyone needs. The more studied practice you do the better you will become.
I've worked freelance in art and animation with many different clients. I've done illustrations for international magazines and books, and created animations for various companies. I trained traditionally at a fine arts school in Sydney, called Julian Ashton. Other than that I've completed many courses that do with art and animation such as Comic Book drawing, 2D hand-drawn animation and Concept Art.
The rate will not change, but if you wanted to get a group together it would be cheaper per individual student. For 1 student = $35/h each (in person); 2-4 students = $20/h each (in person); 5-10 = $15/h each (in person). I cannot teach more than ten students. Online it would be $5 less for each tier.
