My teaching approach always considers the specific needs and experience of the student. From the basics in music theory and composition to more advanced subjects, I'll always make sure learning is structured and paced appropriately. You'll learn many of the theoretical aspects of theory/composition as well as growing your own unique approach to learning about and writing music.
Trumpet instruction is similarly progressive, structured and all inclusive. My specialty is adult learners, but I cater to all ages. Want to play soft and pretty? You got it. Loud, fast and sizzling? No problem. Why not have both?
I am a PhD candidate studying Music Composition, currently based in Melbourne. I have a deep passion for all things musical (I also play trumpet).
My higher studies began at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, from which I graduated with First Class Honours and a Dean's Award for Academic Excellence. I'm currently a recipient of the Australian Postgraduate Award for my ongoing PhD studies.
I love to read (addicted to audiobooks), and learn new things whenever I can.
-Bachelor of Music from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University

Perfect! Chris was very great at communicating both organising the lesson and teaching the instrument, he even shared a few videos of the basics before hand. Super happy with the experience and look forward to learning more of the Trumpet!
Foundation is set! Now just keeping on keeping on!
Perfect! As a student studying music theory at University, I really needed some guidance with tricky concepts which were brushed over in classes. Christopher went above and beyond my expectations to help me through these concepts. He was extremely knowledgeable and very patient with me, which really helped me reach my full potential. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to improve their understanding of music theory!
Monique learned a lot and will hopefully ace her assignment :)
Christopher is an excellent composer and can explain pretty much anything of any complexity in a way that can be understood by students (or anybody just interested in music even without a musical background). I've successfully worked with him many times and couldn't recommended him more highly.
I have supervised Christopher's music composition PhD, as a senior lecturer in music. He has highly advanced skills in music notation, to the most sophisticated level, and is an excellent communicator. You will be in the best hands if you want to improve your skills in reading music notation, whether as a complete beginner or as a professional.
Chris is very passionate about music and communicates very clearly in his teaching. Highly recommended.
