My personal language teaching philosophy are based on my pre-existing teaching experiences and observations. As a language teacher, I believe that it is important to refresh ourselves constantly, ‘get involved in continuous profession development’ and clearly understand the philosophy behind what we teach and the style that we demonstrate. The idea of my philosophy of teaching is composed of my pre-existing language learning experience and some observation from other language teachers’ classes. My first vision of how I intent to teach in my class is to become a ‘democratic teacher’, which means share some of the authorities with my students and encourage them to think critically. In my personal philosophy of teaching, applying dynamic teaching styles to different age groups and different levels of proficiency, which strongly engages students and makes the knowledge more intelligible. I use the grammar-translation method combining with the audio-lingual method in the elementary class. I normally speak two languages in class – Chinese and English, because firstly I want my student to be familiar with Chinese sounds; secondly, I also want them to understand the grammar rules. In class, I normally explain the knowledge in their first language, apply repetition drill and then ask them to practice the specific grammar point in pairs or groups or do some translations. It works quite well for them. For the advanced learners, I only speak the target language in class and explain the difficult concepts by the use of body language, images or realia.
I Completed master degree at University of Canberra, under Master of Arts of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Foreign Language Teaching. I've been studying in Australia from 2010, fluent in both spoken and written Chinese Mandarin, English as second language, preliminary knowledge of Japanese and Cantonese.
