My focus is on transferable skills that can be used across disciplines - breaking down questions to understand what is expected, planning responses, note-taking, efficient revision practices, and clear written communication. I do not simply tell my students the information they need to answer the question in front of them today, I teach them strategies and thinking processes to enable them to understand and clearly answer any question on any day. Students need to be flexible thinkers who can engage with vast amounts of information, recalling only what is required for the specific task or question being asked. To do this they need to not only know it but to be able to make good decisions about its relevancy and explain it clearly in order to do well. I provide templates and processes that can be easily learned and used across all subjects to enhance a student's ability to store and recall information and will assess their written communication skills to build upon these abilities, moving towards a clearer and well-structured academic style.
I am a secondary teacher with 17 years of classroom teaching experience, which I draw on to meet each learner at their point of progress. Setting goals and using research as a foundation for practice, I find the most efficient ways to get students to study effectively. My undergraduate degree is in Arts/Multimedia and I possess high-level skills across the English, Media, Film, Photography, and Digital Technologies areas. Since completing my Graduate Diploma of Education and becoming a secondary teacher I have also completed a Graduate Certificate of Gifted Education and my Masters of Education from the University of Melbourne. I have 13 years of experience in Educational Leadership across the curriculum development and digital learning areas and a passion for using digital tools to make learning more efficient and effective. My life's work has been to work with young people to help them achieve their goals, create and express their ideas, and find/grow their love of learning.
