I am an American actor that relocated to New Zealand in December of 2016. The first things I did upon arriving was join New Zealand Equity/MEAA and find an acting class. I was fortunate enough to attend one of Sally's weekend workshops and was amazed by her honesty and ability to work with all levels of actors. Sally offers a safe place to learn and grow but also expects you to do your homework. She is not only a teacher but is a mentor as well. I recommend Sally because of her ability to challenge you to grow as an artist and a person as well as giving you tools to make you responsible and accountable for your own growth. Jump in with both feet and enjoy.
I am what i am today because your training.
I met Sally in 2008 at her performance space - Studio 111. She was teaching a mixed group of young and older adults, who had shown up after work, with their desire and passion to take up her challenge - to try to become actors - public speakers. I sat at the back, watching for three hours as this group of human-beings become increasingly self-aware and physically adventurous. Sally has many years of experience within the performing arts, both within TV and theatre - her knowledge is extensive and her energy is endless. Is Sally an incredible teacher; you bet!
Richard Long Motion Picture - Producer/Director.
I learnt a lot from Sally and she helped me and many others get off to a successful start in the film and tv industry!
I am a film director but also a Trustee of an arts youth charity in the UK. I've hired Sally on a number of occasions to use her outstanding screen acting workshops to teach life skills and confidence to disengaged youth. The results were amazing and the way confidence was taught 'stealth-like' through the tool of screen acting was innovative and breathtaking. I would hire her again anytime she is in the UK.
Sally has a way of drawing you in and bringing out aspects of yourself you didn't even know existed. A very talented acting teacher . I fully recommend doing one of her courses for a bit of self exploration and building self confidence . And you might end up in a movie.
I studied with Sally Spencer-harris for many years and her energy and insights into human behaviour were the main catalyst in helping me to become a full time creative as a teacher , director , videographer and an actor. She ran her own school called Studio 111 for screen acting training and it was dynamic and absorbing. The immersion into scene work and acting exercises helped me get it to be rwal where as before I was just acting. I will be eternally grateful to Sally for changing my life and helping me be me , fulfilled and persuing a creative life and therefore inspiring others as well as a chain reaction.
I was a late starter. Sally will give you confidence. And provide you with a real good skill set. She lets "you go." I have been to some brilliant classes. Sally even invited the Original Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) to a session. Within 2 short courses Sally had given me enough confidence to score my first Theatre role. Starring in "The Memory of Water," an Olivier Award Winning Comedy by Shelagh Stephenson. Progressed to Screen Acting courses and went on to play parts in Shortland Street, Making of The Mob (US) and a lead in the film "Not For Children." Not bad for a learner. I would always recommend Sally. She just wants you to fly.
I first spoke to Sally in 2004 over the phone and then started her Level 1 course. I did Level 2 a short time after and then had a break for a few years before starting again and going through to Level 3. Sally creates a safe, friendly and inviting environment. I always loved doing the classes with her and not only did I learn more about acting, I also met some great people and she taught techniques that can be applied to everyday life. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn more about acting. She’s a great teacher, friendly and an excellent communicator. She pushes and tests you but with brilliant results.
