My method starts with finding out where a student sits, and what level of knowledge/aptitude they need to reach in order to succeed in a subject.
Next, I tailor a learning plan based on the students knowledge-set and confidence, with a focus on addressing any fundamentals that a student is struggling with or not understanding perfectly.
The reason for focusing on fundamentals is two-fold. For one, lacking fundamental knowledge in a subject can be a huge roadblock to success, as it makes any topic requiring that fundamental knowledge confusing and inaccessible. Secondly, improving a students fundamental knowledge provides a confidence boost that can help a student to help themselves.
In closing, my goal as a tutor is to teach students how to learn independently and effectively, through creating and following a learning plan designed for their knowledge-set and aptitude, and through ensuring that the plan places significant focus on making the learning experience enjoyable and entertaining.
I am a web designer and developer who studied science and mathematics at UQ.
I started tutoring while still in year 12, and have continued on and off as both a private, and university employed tutor.
I believe strongly in the importance of making learning entertaining, as once a student finds joy in the learning process, their results tend to skyrocket.
