About the lesson
I am a self-taught guitarist who is currently studying music theory online. I would be an ideal tutor for a beginner on guitar for all ages.
I have found that learning an instrument or a language can feel like an enormous and unachievable task. The key is to understand that learning a new skill takes time. Rather than focus on the overall goal like mastering the guitar, it is important to break the learning down into smaller, achievable goals. While I don't hold any qualifications for music, I am a student-teacher who has experience teaching and tutoring French. Lessons will last for approximately an hour but can be negotiated for longer or shorter sessions. Lessons can include music theory or just focus on playing using guitar tablature depending on the learning goals of the student.
- All Levels
I am a student-teacher at the University of Adelaide. I have a BA in English and History and I was studying and tutoring French until recently. I fell in love with music when I was a teenager. I was a little bit late to discover this appreciation and my attempts to learn guitar when I was younger were less fruitful than I had hoped due to having missed the earlier years of music class. This led me to feel like I could not do it and that I couldn't keep up with the talented students around me. That I didn't have "it". I realise now that what I experienced in this attempt was the burnout that comes from trying to engage in a level that was too advanced for me. This experience really highlights the importance of meeting students where they are at and setting goals with them that work for them.
