The important thing to me is that you genuinely want to learn. I want to see effort and I care about that more than any “natural talent”. I use the Piano Adventures lesson book series and you will work from a book at a suitable level. We can also learn music of your choice, like popular classics, or pop songs you like to sing. It’s important to play music that you like, because that’s what it’s all about! I regularly enrol students for examinations and we can do that too if you wish. I prepare students well and would not enter you unless I was confident that you are ready and will have a good experience from sitting an exam.
I usually connect using Zoom, FaceTime and Skype. But I’m happy to use other apps. You need an iPad or other tablet, laptop or a phone.
I have been a piano teacher since 2013. I am based in two schools, and teach private students online. I want to grow online because it’s great to both teach and learn in the comfort of your home. It’s also very efficient, and I like technology and all its possibilities. I feel my role as a teacher is to help you discover the joy of creating music; how to read and understand notes, how to play and express yourself. Making music creates happiness, whether it’s with other people or on your own. You are not lonely when you have music in your life. I have some students with learning challenges, and teaching them is a special privilege, as is having their parents’ trust. I especially want those students to have all the benefits that reading, listening to and making music brings. Here are teaching posts on my blog (concealed information)
A single piano lesson is usually half an hour, so that would be $30 AUD for a lesson. If you wish a longer lesson like 45 minutes for $45 AUD we can do that.

Joanna has been teaching our two girls AMEB piano lessons for almost four years now. She is wonderful with the girls, explaining technical piano terms in a way that children understand and she individually challenges the girls to the best of their ability in ways that work for them.
Her professionalism and passion for music is always shining.
Joanna is a truly dedicated teacher and she loves her pupils. I know this because she tells me how proud she is of her students and the range of abilities and challenges many of them achieve and overcome.
We now live an hours drive away from this amazing lady but we would have no other piano teacher! The girls love and respect her and by the end of 2020 they will have accomplished a total of 5 AMEB piano exams under Joanna’s tuition.
I thoroughly recommend Joanna for her passion, professionalism and aspiration in tutoring piano and her desire to pass on the enjoyment of music to children.
Joanna is the perfect teacher for my daughter. She responds to her students’ interests in musical style and genre and challenges them to be better each lesson in a supportive and kind manner. Her communication is always professional and respectful. She has developed in my daughter a real love for learning the art of both learning and piano. I sincerely commend Joanna to parents looking for a competent, kind and all round brilliant role model for musical kids.
Our students loved their piano lessons with Joanna! I was always amazed by not only their growth in playing ability, but the development of their passion for learning. The students were always eager for their lessons and Joanna often had a long waiting list to secure a lesson time, a testament to the quality of her teaching!
Joanna is awesome, she has more patience for children learning music than anyone I have come across. Not to mention she has the ability to recognise not all styles of teaching fit every child. My child will forever have the love of music due to Joanna’s kindness, patience and talent for music. I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in learning as a beginner or more advanced students!
My daughter had a few changes in piano teachers at school but Joanna helped my daughter to adapt and settle to those changes quickly. Joanna has enabled her to grow in confidence to be able to pass her first AMEB exam with an honours.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Joanna as a piano teacher.
We hit the jackpot when Joanna applied for the piano teaching role at our school. She is incredibly thorough, with a calming nature and has high expectations of her students whilst still encouraging them.
Our students all enjoy lessons with Joanna.
Aside from her teaching, she is great to work with, with all aspects of her role carried out consistently to the highest standard.
We have Joanna teaching our daughter piano, we started off on keyboard and my daughter loves it so much we have just bought a piano and I am also going to get lessons. Joanna is so good with our daughter she has just thrived and enjoys every lesson, and hopefully I will be the same. I have wanted to learn to play ever since I can remember and watching our daughter grow and loving playing the piano fills me with confidence that I will to :)
Joanna is a fantastic teacher! Tom has advanced so well under her instruction, and is thoroughly enjoying his piano lessons.
My boys love their lessons with Joanna. Her calm and gentle manner helps them to relax and enjoy their lessons. She has sparked their enthusiasm, encouraging them to expand their abilities and learn new things. We couldn't be happier with Joanna, she's a wonderful teacher.
I was looking for a new piano teacher and I heard about Joanna through family.
While I’ve only done a few months worth of lessons with her, I can already see a huge improvement in both my piano and music skills. Joanna’s lessons always leave me excited and encouraged to practice what I’ve learnt. Even on busy days I find that Joanna’s kind and calming demeanour helps me settle down and teaches me to appreciate the music in front of me. Joanna is an amazing teacher and I highly recommend her to anyone interested in finding a teacher. She has not only taught me piano but also to appreciate the music.
