I tutor mathematics for primary, middle and senior school students, with my specialty being in ATAR Mathematics Methods. My lessons are for any student - those who are struggling to grasp the basics, and those who are already excelling.
I use the same methodology principles for all my students, regardless of school year or ability. My teaching methodology focuses on building the foundations, from which greater depth of understanding can be ascertained. I do this by implementing past exams from a variety of sources, a plethora of textbook exercises and worksheets all of which offer a diverse range of questions to best equip students for their exams.
At the start of each session, I go through any questions the student may have, before proceeding to an explanation of a particular topic relevant to the curriculum. Once this topic is well understood, practice questions are used to consolidate the concepts learnt and to demonstrate what the student has learned and build their self confidence. This allows students to confidently complete their homework, and thoroughly prepares them for assessments.
The practice problems, tests, and exams I use come from past papers from schools like Sacred Heart College, Perth Modern School, All Saints College, Trinity College and many more. Moreover, I also provide my students valuable summary notes of my own which can be useful for revision and consolidation purposes.
By implementing some of these strategies in my own studies, and applying them during tutoring of other students, I have found these to be effective time and time again.
Lessons can be 1, 1.5 or 2 hours, and can be individual or in a group setting (for which there is a discount). I live north of the river, however, I am willing to travel to provide lessons.
I am a student at the University of Western Australia, currently studying a Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) with a double major in Mathematics and Statistics, & Medical Sciences. After this degree, I have a direct pathway to study the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine, also at UWA.
I have a passion for learning and teaching mathematics, and excelled at the subject during high school. I graduated from Sacred Heart College in 2020 with an ATAR of 97.20, and above 80% in both ATAR Mathematics Specialist and Methods. Throughout Year 12 I maintained an average of 89% in Maths Methods. In both year 11 and year 12 I was the runner up for Maths Methods subject award at my school.
I have helped tutor family members and friends over numerous years to great success. All my students have praised my passion for mathematics, and my dedication to improving their results with a simple and effective tutoring method.

Hi, my name is Jie-Chen and I would highly recommend my good friend Preston as a tutor. I've known Preston for two years now and his clear, non-judgmental teaching style helped me succeed in both my high school and university courses. He is systematic and methodical in his teaching, helping me with retention and understanding. I really appreciate the value he places on attention to detail which fosters a deeper, more complete understanding of concepts and in turn, helps me grasp later, more complex topics.
