I like to work one on one with the student to understand their situation, including their personal needs and challenges. It is important for me to include the student in deciding on lesson activities and homework.
I have just graduated year 12 in France and have come home to Canberra for my gap year to see my family. Having taken speciality maths (6 hours a week) this year, I have a good grasp on math concepts taught in school.
However, I have always had difficulties with this subject, despite enjoying it enough to pursue classes through college and apply to a maths degree in uni. This means that I truly understand the challenges faced by people of all ages, especially when little support is provided by the school.
At 13 I asked my parents to enrol me in the Kumon maths program, as I was extremely behind in maths class. After a couple of years, I started working there as a support younger kids in both subjects. I would work closely with the 3-12 year olds, keeping them concentrated, planning their homework, and maintaining a positive mindset in both subjects. This has provided me with a great base for tutoring one on one.
Additionally, I am fluent in French having lived in the south of France since the age of 16. I can therefore provide support for kids in the french-stream who are having difficulties in maths.
I really enjoy working with kids and plan to become a primary-school teacher in France when I am older.
Looking forward to tutoring!
