People have good reasons for preferring indoor swimming pools, especially at the height of summer. However, outdoor pools rank just as well, depending on who you ask. This exposé takes an unbiased approach. Here, we present the best swimming pools in Perth, full stop.

Let's go

Craigie Leisure Centre

This facility, tucked away in a northern Perth suburb, has something for everyone. For the serious lap swimmers, there's a 50-metre outdoor pool. For those who prefer indoor swimming, the 25-metre pool suits just fine.

Kids can splash around in the indoor leisure pool, or go outside to play in the splash park. Adult swimmers needing a break from parental duties can drop their young ones off at the crèche. Then, they can enjoy:

  • a spa experience
  • the outdoor sauna
  • indoor steam rooms
  • treatments at the wellness studio
  • group fitness classes
  • a treat from the café

📍Location: Whitfords Avenue, Craigie WA 6025

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Friday - 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM

💲Costs: adult entry: $7,30; family and multi-visit passes available

🌐Web address: https://craigieleisurecentre.com.au/visit/facilities-and-accessibility

The City of Joondalup maintains this exquisite facility. The best public pools in Sydney operate under a similar arrangement. But they don't have as much on offer as Craigie does.

Leisure World, Gosnells

This facility has so much to offer, it's hard to know where to start. The child-minding program is wonderful, it includes indoor and outdoor activities. The workout facilities rival any top-brand gyms, in Perth and elsewhere.

But, we're here for the pools. The indoor, heated, 25-metre basin accommodates lap swimming as well as water exercise classes. Children have their own pool, complete with a slide and other water features.

📍Location: Thornlie Ave and Culross Ave Thornlie WA 6108

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Friday - 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM

💲Costs: membership encouraged; starts at $26,80/fortnight

🌐Web address: https://www.gosnells.wa.gov.au/Lifestyle/Leisure_Activities/Leisure_World

All across Australia, we found leisure complexes are often the best places for swimming and overall fitness. Leisure World is no exception to that rule. Here, you will find everything for a fun, fit day out, for yourself and for the whole family.

Belmont Oasis Leisure Centre

Leisure seems to be the theme uniting the best swimming pools in Perth, this one included. Still, Belmont offers something the other pools don't: an indoor lagoon, for rest and aquatic relaxation.

Besides this unique feature, you'll find a 50-metre indoor pool with eight lanes for lap swimming. Outside, you'll swim in a 25-metre lap pool, or you can learn to swim in the indoor pool dedicated to those lessons. Other facility features include:

  • a fully appointed gym
  • a group fitness studio
  • a sports arena for basketball or other games
  • a spa area with steam room and sauna
  • a café
  • a crèche

📍Location: Progress Way, Belmont WA 6104

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Thursday - 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday - 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

💲Costs: adult entry: $7,00; family passes available; as are various membership packages

🌐Web address: https://belmontoasis.com.au/facilities/

It's easy to make a day of things at Belmont Oasis, and come back for more the next day. Some of the top swimming spots in Melbourne make it equally hard to leave after a swim.

Let's go

Bold Park Aquatic

This facility dedicates itself more completely to swimming, though you'll find lots of extras. The emphasis is on lap swimming, learning how to swim, and taking aqua fitness classes.

Still, kids can have fun here, either in the crèche, or playing with the pool inflatables.

The onsite café serves hot and cold food, as well as an array of warm or chilled drinks. If ice cream is your preferred treat, enjoy one poolside, or while sitting in the complex's park.

📍Location: 215 The Boulevard City Beach 6015

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Thursday - 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM; Friday - 5:30 AM to 7:00 PM; Saturday - 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Sunday - 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (summer hours)

💲Costs: adult entry: $7,00; multiple-visit passes and various membership packages available

🌐Web address: https://www.boldparkaquatic.com.au/Entry-Fees/Entry-fees-multi-passes

Admittedly, Camberra swim parks don't have quite the relaxed vibe that Bold Park does. Still, if you visit the Australian Capital Territory, you'll have many leisure facilities to relax and swim in.

Beatty Park Leisure Centre

If your young swimmers are clamouring for a swimming pool with slides, Beatty Park is the place to take them. Since 1962, this has been Perth's most popular recreation facility. With good reason, too! Where else will you find six heated basins in one complex?

Beatty Park's outdoor pools

  • 50-metre, 10-lane pool
  • 30-metre leisure pool
  • 12-metre exercise pool

Beatty Park's indoor pools

  • 25-metre, 8-lane pool
  • slide pool with 2 slides
  • leisure pool with water playground

Besides all the aquatic fun to be had at Beatty, you may get and/or stay fit in the complex's complete gym, take part in exercise classes, or relax in the spa/sauna suite. Should you discover you left your favourite swim towel at home, you can buy one in the shop.

📍Location: 220 Vincent Street, North Perth

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Thursday - 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday - 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM

💲Costs: adult entry: $8,00; family swim passes and multi-entry cards available

🌐Web address: https://www.beattypark.com.au/aquatics

Beatty Park also offers crèche services, and a limited menu snack bar, with drinks. We found similar full-stop recreational centres across Brisbane, where people are equally keen to swim and play.

Stirling Leisure, Inglewood

Across Perth, you'll find four Stirling facilities: Scarborough, Scarborough Beach, Balga, and this one. They are each remarkable for their amenities and features, and for the communities they build. However, the Inglewood facility stands out for one exceptional reason.

photo_size_select_large
The Southern Hemisphere's biggest pool

Stirling Leisure (Inglewood) boasts the largest lap pool.
It features 10 50-metre lanes, and four 25-metre lanes.

Three of 50-metre lanes, those closest to the facility, enjoy shade from sun sails, as do all the 25-metre ones. Should you prefer perfecting your stroke technique under the sun's blazing eye, edge closer to the green spaces. The splash and leisure pools are also covered, for swimmers' comfort and safety.

📍Location: 62 Alexander Drive, Inglewood WA 6052

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Friday - 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 6:30 AM to 8:00 PM (summer schedule)

💲Costs: adult entry: $7,30; family swim, multi-passes, and membership packages available

🌐Web address: https://www.stirling.wa.gov.au/stirling-leisure/our-locations/stirling-leisure-inglewood

Besides all the aquatic amenities, this leisure facility offers a full fitness suite, to include a gym loaded with aerobic and resistance machines. You'll also find a group class studio, a Spin studio, and a long list of fitness initiatives to take part in.

Naturally, crèche services, and a delightful snacks kiosk make the experience complete.

Cockburn Aquatic and Recreation Centre (ARC)

Cockburn ARC delights visitors with its expanded facilities, and a lengthy roster of swim and fitness classes. Here, you might practise or master Brazilian jiujitsu, and play the ever-popular pickleball. This complex has room for them all.

But, we came to swim, and were not disappointed. First, we did laps in the outdoor 50-metre pool, and then splashed around a bit in the 25-metre indoor basin. Not far away, kids buzzed around the water play area, which features slides and climbing installations.

This is the only recreational facility we visited that caters to the neurodivergent, as well as the physically other-abled.

Naturally, Cockburn ARC is fully accessible, and has coaches to help swimmers of all levels master water skills.

📍Location: 31 Veterans Parade, Cockburn Central WA 6164

🕐Operating hours: Monday-Friday - 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM; Saturday/Sunday - 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM

💲Costs: adult entry: $7,80; bundled and family passes available; membership is encouraged

🌐Web address: https://www.cockburnarc.com.au/Swim

Saunas, steam rooms and spas seems to be standard amenities at public swimming pools Perth. Childcare and snack bars also seem to be the norm.

That puts the pools in Adelaide at a disadvantage. Most of them have nowhere near the amenities these pools offer.

Where to Turn for Private Swim Lessons Perth

As noted throughout this article, Perth area swim facilities often offer swimming lessons. But, you can learn how to swim at your favourite aquatic facility, even if they don't have any swim coaches. At least, not as long as you have a Superprof swim tutor.

Perth's five Superprof swim tutors will meet you at the basin of your choice, whether a public pool or the one in your backyard. They are qualified to teach you and/or your kids the basics of swimming, or how to improve your stroke technique. And, they will typically do so for less than the cost of formal lessons.
