One Playground Marrickville
One Playground is a collection of six Sydney-area gyms, two of which stand out: The Bunker and this one. Both are committed to delivering the ultimate fitness experience. They offer top-of-the-line fitness equipment, including cardio machines and weights. They both offer classes targeting a range of fitness goals.
For strength and flexibility, you might sign up for their Barre class. For endurance and all-around toning, select the high-intensity interval training (HIIT) class. You may further choose yoga or reformer Pilates, or learn to dance and fight. Like the best gyms in Gold Coast, One Playground gyms left us in awe.

FoxFit Redfern
Sydney is a cosmopolitan city, so it stands to reason that franchise gyms would flourish there. Some of them are international brands, such as Anytime and Snap Fitness. Others, like One Playground and FoxFit, are Australian-born. Even better: Foxfit is a women-only gym; female fitness enthusiasts can work out without sly glances and unwanted approaches.
Gym members may join a group fitness class; FoxFit runs around eight such sessions every weekday. You may choose from interval training, working on a specific area (glutes and abs, e.g.) or build strength and endurance. You might work with a personal trainer to build endurance and strength, should you not be ready for such efforts. FoxFit started as a Melbourne gym; we're glad Sydneysiders have one now, too!

Code 5
The best gym memberships Sydney seem cagey about revealing their pricing. They want future fitness partners to see what their money will buy in real-time. This way, rather than letting pricing influence membership decisions, value is the most important factor. At the three Sydney-area Code 5 gyms, value is what you'll find.
These gyms offer six paths to fitness; these coaches even have a youth fitness program. You might start with Code 5's beginner course, an ideal program if you've been lax in your fitness goals. Next, you may join a group class or work out with a personal trainer. Or, you might sign up for Code 5's online coaching program, like I did with a gym in Brisbane.

Virgin Active
This Virgin fitness facility may not be the biggest gym in Sydney, but is ranks among the best-appointed. Of all the gyms in Australia we reviewed, none boasted sleeping pods their members could catch a nap in. Virgin's eight Sydney-area gyms do, along with other luxurious amenities. Those perks complement everything else these fitness centres offer.
The Bligh Street facility's equipment is so well maintained it looks brand new. The workouts can be rigorous; you may sign up for a type of HIIT called grid training, or take things calmly with yoga. The above-mentioned nap pods or a session with the club's sound therapy master are perfect ways to recover from your workout.

BFT Town Hall
This is the best gym in Sydney for anyone who craves a hardcore workout. BFT - Body Fit Training, is an international gym franchise that uses technology to guide members' efforts. Unlike the best gyms in Perth - where you may work out on your own, BFT centres deliver progressive fitness challenges.
It works like this: you'll start by conditioning yourself through an eight-week session of functional movements. Then, you advance to endurance and strength training and, from there, in whichever direction will suit your fitness goals. BFT's progression-based programs deliver consistent results over time.

UBX
Gyms in Sydney offer varying degrees of training for boxers but at UBX gyms, it's all about boxing. Indeed, this franchise's name is 'You Box'. No need to buy hand wraps and gloves before your first session, UBX has sets to spare, if needed.
Like BFT, UBX uses a 'continuous training' system to ensure consistent results. Your first two-week training cycle will help condition you for the strength-training phase that follows. Now, with your strength and endurance built up, you're ready for the power phase. Only after all that will you train as a boxer.

- 💲Cost: membership packages start at $94/fortnight

Elixr Health Club
This is one of the best gym memberships in Sydney if you enjoy water workouts. Here, you can take swimming classes or exercise in water. Elixir fitness coaches lead Aqua classes, which combine resistance training with cardiovascular endurance. If painful joints or an aching back has kept you out of gyms in Sydney, this type of training will bring you back in.
Rambling through Elixr was a bit like touring one of the best gyms in Adelaide. The facility gives off spa vibes that belie all the work going on there. The Reformer Pilates is as rigorous as in the biggest gym in Sydney, and you can take kickboxing and HIIT classes, too. To build flexibility, try Elixr's yoga, stretch or barre classes.

Titan Fitness
We end our review of Sydney area gyms in Coogee, at the self-proclaimed best and biggest gym in Sydney's suburbs. Titan Fitness promises rigorous workouts in their classes or individually, with a personal trainer. At Titan, you can begin HIIT journey, explore spinning or groove out in Body Pump. This full-body barbell workout will see you toned in no time.
Titan's classes typically last 45 minutes but, as a newcomer, you don't have to go the distance immediately. In fact, your fitness coach will likely caution you to use lighter weights and do fewer reps. They may even recommend starting in their yoga or Pilates classes if you're not quite ready for heavy action.

During our grand tour around Australian gyms, we had to marvel over Aussies' commitment to fitness and a healthy lifestyle. Despite the report cited in this article's introduction, people want to feel good and be active. Often it's the lack of opportunity that prevents them from making such choices.
In Sydney, in particular, the cost of gym membership is one such barrier. Just three hours away, gyms in Canberra are much more affordable. However, Sydneysiders benefit from being on the coast, which gives people the incentive to get outdoors, at least.
Taking a fitness course for just a few months is a good way to kickstart your healthy lifestyle. You needn't pay gym fees for the rest of your life, only long enough to master basic fitness principles.
Once you do, walking, running, cycling and doing callisthenics, along with a healthy diet, is enough to continue your fitness journey. That's the very definition of doing something today that your future self will thank you for.
