There's this place I like to go to in Yeronga when I need a little pick-me-up; when I've lost the thread of my inner glee. It's called Dance Masala, also known as Bollywood in Brisbane. Learning those dance moves is so liberating and the music is sublime! I just wish I knew what those songs were about.

As I progress through my Hindi classes, I grow more certain that I will soon understand every lyric. Already, I can order my favourite dishes in Hindi - often to the waitstaff's surprise. I'll probably never steal the show at any desi party but I'm learning valuable skills as I learn how to speak, read and write in Hindi.

You too can learn these skills as you learn the language of Northern India. Along the way, you'll gain cultural insights and expand your worldview. You only need to know where to find the best Hindi classes Brisbane. For that, you've got Superprof.

Hindi Classes in a Language School

All around Australia, we find Hindi-speaking communities within the biggest cities; Brisbane is no exception. Our city is home to the Queensland Association of Hindustani Language School, Culture and Welfare. This Hindi language school welcomes students of all ages who want to learn how to speak Hindi. Or, if they already have basic Hindi language skills, those students can improve and advance their knowledge of Hindi language and culture.

Far from being a commercial venture, this Hindi Language School has Education Queensland approval. It has a fully fleshed-out curriculum that covers speaking, listening, reading and writing in Hindi. When you take Hindi classes at this school, you will learn the Devanagari script, one of the oldest writing systems in human history.

Language classes can sometimes be boring, focusing as they do on grammar and other language mechanics. But Hindi is grammatically similar to English so your Hindi lessons won't focus too much on those language-learning aspects. Each week will see you address a new topic; you'll learn to talk about everything from your fashion choices to mythical creatures.

For as lively as Brisbane's Hindu community is, ours has nothing on the Hindi-speaking communities in Sydney. But Hindi lessons at this Language School go a long way towards dispelling the idea that being a language student is boring. You can count on lively discussions that sometimes touch on deep subjects when you sign up for these Hindi classes Brisbane.

Hindi Classes at the University of Queensland

In compiling our guide to Hindi classes across Australia, we were disappointed to find few official outlets offering students Hindi lessons. By official, we mean community schools, Technical and Further Education (TAFE) and Vocational Education and Training (VET). Many universities offer learning programs for other languages - English, Spanish, Mandarin and others, but Hindi doesn't seem to make the cut.

So we were pleasantly surprised to find that the University of Queensland's Institute for Modern Languages has a full curriculum for learning Hindi. Students may start with 'survival' Hindi - everything English speakers need to know ahead of their quick trip to India. If you're not sure you want to become fluent in Hindi, you might try their Hindi Beginner Short Course.

This class is a 16-hour exploration of Hindi language and culture designed to cement students' desire to learn the language of northern India. But if you're certain Hindi is your next language-learning adventure, you might instead register for the school's Level A1 course. Over 22 hours, you'll learn the basics of Hindi reading and writing. You'll also begin cultivating Hindi speaking and listening skills.

The course prepares you for Hindi Level B1, in which you will build on the skills you've already mastered. Unfortunately, the University of Queensland Hindi language project doesn't go beyond these two levels. To move beyond intermediate Hindi language skills, you will need to take private Hindi lessons.

Still, we're quite lucky that our university offers Hindi language classes. While looking for Hindi lessons in Perth, we were disappointed to find that the University of Western Australia doesn't offer Hindi classes. But they might take a page from our book and make them available to Perthlings soon.

Hindi Classes Brisbane: Learn with a Private Tutor

Level 1B Hindi is hardly enough for you to pass the official Hindi language exam, let alone capitalise on your new language skills. An Avant STAMP certification paves the way to study at universities in India. You may also want to learn Business Hindi and establish an international trade company.

These are all great reasons to take Hindi classes with a private tutor, and you may have your own, besides. Companies such as Listen & Learn and Language Trainers have spent years developing language teaching techniques tailored to students' unique needs. For instance, if you're planning a Delhi holiday off the beaten path, you'll want to learn conversational Hindi so you can mind the people's customs and conventions.

Language Trainers offers both Business and General Hindi classes to individuals and small groups. When you sign up for lessons, you should make clear why you're taking Hindi courses - for business or for higher education purposes. Even if you want to learn Hindi for learning's sake, let them know. And then, you may choose between online and in-person lessons.

All of Language Trainers' teachers are native Hindi speakers but you're not limited to finding a Hindi teacher on this platform. As rich as the Brisbane Hindi community is, you may find a native Hindi speaker advertising on social media or on a community page like the Singh Business Network.

Unlike in Adelaide, Singh lists few Hindi tutors available for lessons throughout Queensland. However, other commercial concerns can help you connect with private tutors for Hindi lessons. Listen & Learn is such a one.

Take Hindi Classes Online

Listen & Learn is an international language-learning business that offers lessons both online and in person. When this company started, a little over 80 years ago, it specialised in reselling old-edition textbooks. Starting in the 1950s, it promoted language learning by selling instructional albums - vinyl records of language lessons.

Today, Listen & Learn is high-tech, making the most of internet capabilities to reach language students around the world. This company offers lessons online and in person if they have qualified teachers in the students' areas. This company's long history of providing educational materials and instruction reflects favourably on their instruction models.

Listen & Learn, Language Trainers and Preply give you access to the types of teachers you're looking for. The first two companies have offices in Melbourne; you will find page after page of Hindi tutors offering lessons at various levels and prices. Preply is a Ukrainian company headquartered in the United States. Its web page also boasts a selection of qualified Hindi tutors in and around Brisbane.

In contrast to these, italki is purely internet-based. This company got its start in 2007, just as internet connectivity made chatting via webcam possible. Italki is a learning exchange platform; everyone has the chance to be both a teacher and a student.

Italki is an engaging platform but if you're busy or trying to limit your screen time, maybe all the options it offers are too much. You might want to focus on developing your Hindi speaking and listening skills. That's the type of mentoring Superprof Hindi tutors excel at.

Superprof's Hindi tutor community is more than 15,000 strong. You may choose a Superprof Hindi tutor as far away as New Delhi or as close as Coopers Plains. After all, as long as you're learning online, it doesn't matter where in the world your teacher is.

But think about how great it would be to take lessons with a Hindi tutor in Delhi, Agra or Jaipur. Your Superprof Hindi tutor might take you on a virtual walking tour around their neighbourhood or shopping in their local market. You may even visit restaurants remotely and tour areas of cultural interest together.

Some might say there's no point in learning Hindi because English is India's co-official language; Superprof begs to differ. Hindi is a beautiful language and well worth studying. You can then watch all that great Bollywood fare without subtitles and sing along to your favourite Hindi songs. Plus, you earn bragging rights for speaking one of the world's most gracious tongues.
