When people decide they want to learn a new language, they tend to gravitate towards historically popular selections. Those include French, German and Spanish. Over the past few years, Mandarin Chinese has made the cut. So has Korean, thanks to the Hallyu Wave - the mighty South Korean entertainment engine.

The language of northern India doesn't capture nearly that share of enthusiasm. For one, English is a co-official language throughout this country. For two, native English speakers are notorious for disdaining other languages. Why speak any other tongue when the English language is accepted worldwide?

That's a misconception. One might get by with English in the world's larger cities but if you want to know a land, its people and culture, you must learn that country's language. Besides, all the statistics you've learned about Hindi's popularity may be wide the mark.

Hindi is the world's fourth most-spoken language after Spanish, English and Mandarin. If you add the number of Urdu speakers to those who speak Hindi, the number of Hindi speakers around the globe surpasses those who speak Spanish. Combining Urdu and Hindi isn't an artificial numbers inflation; the language of Pakistan differs little from the north Indian tongue.

We have a few more reasons to find Hindi tutoring Sydney. August 2023 saw India claim the world's attention through two momentous events. First, for the role this nation plays as a founding member of the BRICS alliance. Second for landing their spacecraft on the moon's south pole.

Chandrayaan 1's success heralds a new age, one where India is a contender for space exploration. The BRICS alliance places India firmly at the crest of a shifting economic tide. It's no wonder why, all across Australia, language learners are scrambling to find Hindi lessons. Superprof makes Sydneysiders' work easy with this list of best Hindi Classes Sydney.

Hindi Classes Sydney With South Asian Australian Association

The South Asian Australian Association (SAAA) promotes South Asian cultural awareness across Australia. Music, dance and art form the backbone of their outreach; they offer Hindi classes to children and adults. SAAA  makes it a point to reach beyond Sydney's extensive Hindi community to welcome students from non-Hindi backgrounds. To that end they vary their learning programs slightly, incorporating more cultural education into their lessons.

SAAA's South Asian Hindi School welcomes pupils aged five to 16. Their lessons cover all aspects of language learning: reading and writing as well as listening and speaking Hindi. Students from Hindi households have an advantage when it comes to building listening skills because they are immersed in the language environment. Thus, SAAA teachers take special pains to help learners from non-Hindi households develop those skills on par with their peers.

Adults are welcome to join in the learning, too. SAAA Hindi teachers use a blend of traditional classroom teaching, as well as small-group instruction and collaborative learning strategies. You will also benefit from peer learning initiatives like group assignments and other projects.

As we scoured Australia for the best Hindi lessons, only Melbourne had a comparable Hindi learning program to the one SAAA offers. You may join SAAA for their new session at the start of every school term. The fee for these courses is $50, and you may join them online or in person. If your whole family takes part, your per-term fee is only $70.

Hind Classes Sydney with IABBV

In 1987, a group of newly immigrated mothers despaired over their children losing out on their native language and culture. Thus, they formed The Indo-Aust Bal Bharathi Vidyalaya-Hindi School (IABBV). Ian Thiering was the principal of the Thornleigh West Public School at that time. He believed in the IABBV project; he offered the group the use of a classroom for their lessons. To this day, that's where these teachers give lessons.

But the IABBV group didn't stop there. The school incorporated and followed the Community Languages Program guidelines. These dedicated Hindi teachers earned support from the Consul General of India, who funds their work through grants and donations. For the past 25 years, these teachers have been certified as outside tutors for Higher School Certification (HSC) 2 Unit Hindi Continuers.

Like SAAA, IABBV welcomes adults and children to their Hindi lessons. This school welcomes learners as young as five to take part in interactive learning experiences. These lessons helps students develop Hindi language in reading, writing, speaking and listening. Unlike the Saraswati Hindi school in Adelaide, IABBV does not incorporate meditation or any religious education into its curriculum.

IABBV Hindi lessons are strictly in-person. You may register your interest for Hindi lessons each year in January; as spaces become available for your age group, the school will contact you for admission. Classes run every Sunday, from 9:30 to noon every Sunday during the regular school terms. As an IABBV student, you're entitled to Hindi tutoring outside of regular class hours; you only need to ask for extra help.

Hindi Classes Sydney with SSCL

Saturday School of Community Languages (SSCL) provides the greatest access to face-to-face language instruction in New South Wales (NSW). This initiative is a NSW Department of Education program that operates in 15 schools within the state. SSCL offers language courses in Hindi as well as 25 other languages. Unfortunately, they're only accessible to students from Years 7 to 12.

Still, if you're a senior student planning to study at one of northern India's illustrious universities, SSCL Hindi courses are just what you need. These Hindi classes are rigorous and regulated just as any other school class is. You will gain Hindi language skills that prepare you to sit the Avant STAMP exam, Hindi language skills certification test. With these credentials, your goal of studying and/or working in northern India, Pakistan or Bangladesh is within your reach.

Classes start at 8:30 on Saturday. For the lower grades, the learning sessions end at 10:30. Senior students will enjoy a short break before continuing their lessons. For them, classes end at 11:45. Year 12 Extension students will carry on learning until 12:45. No matter what level you are, you will have assignments to complete and will lose class points if you fail to do so.

SSCL Hindi classes are free of charge; they are covered by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA). You'll receive academic credit for these courses and all aspects of your learning, from attendance to performance, will be measured according to standard school benchmarks. Hindi students in Perth would be hard-pressed to find such a deal! No wonder SSCL Hindi classes are so well attended.

Hindi Tutoring Sydney Online

Sydney is the most generous city for in-person Hindi lessons, by far. But across Australia, language learners are not deprived of Hindi lessons; technology brings Hindi tutors from around the world to every corner of our land. Language exchange platforms like italki make it easy for Hindi learners to find the language courses they need.

Italki allows Hindi students to choose between one-to-one tutoring and group lessons online. Or, if the student has a group of their own, they may request private instruction for their group. Prices vary from tutor to tutor; students may review tutor profiles and select the ones that fit their budgets the best. At the least, you'll benefit from being an italki community member; you can help other students master your native language.

If you prefer private in-person lessons, you might check out what commercial language schools like Language Trainers and Listen and Learn have to offer. These two are also international companies with a strong presence across Australia and Hindi tutors to suit every learning need.

For instance, you might take Business Hindi lessons if your company is soon to trade with a firm in Agra or Gujarat. Or you might take Medical Hindi lessons if you plan to earn your medical credentials at Delhi University. You may want targeted coaching ahead of your Avant STAMP exam; that's the type of revision Language Trainer coaches specialise in.

Superprof Hindi tutors specialise in all aspects of Hindi teaching. Most of Superprof's Hindi tutors are native Hindi speakers; they are a legion nearly 16,000 strong. As you're searching for a Hindi tutor for online lessons, why not reach out to a Superprof Hindi tutor in India? That way, you'll be sure to learn about the cultural aspects of the Hindi Belt as you learn its language.

Should you prefer face-to-face lessons, you might contact Superprof's Sydney-based Hindi tutors.
