Different types of swimming strokes
It’s really worth noting that swimming is not only a fun recreational activity, but it is also an effective full-body workout. There are various swimming strokes that can be used to make swimming more efficient and help build strength and endurance
The four main swimming strokes are freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly stroke.
Freestyle is the most commonly used swimming stroke and involves propelling oneself through the water in alternating arm motions while keeping the body horizontal in a prone position with your face underwater.
The backstroke is similar to freestyle (also known as the front crawl) except swimmers stay on their backs while kicking their legs up towards their torso with each pull of the arms.
The breaststroke involves strong downward sweeps of both arms combined with frog kicks of both legs for propulsion through the water.
Finally, the butterfly stroke requires powerful sweeps of both arms above the surface of the water at the same time as a simultaneous dolphin kick below. This swimming stroke requires great amounts of coordination between arms and legs for maximum speed and efficiency in swimming laps or long distances.
