About Bob
I graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Composition) from QCGU under the Head of Composition, Dr. Gerardo Dirié, earning three High Distinctions in “Music Theory & Aural” and “Composition Study,” respectively, during my studies. This provided me with a strong foundation in music theory and composition. I am experienced in teaching music theory, composition, and orchestration, and is also familiar with the ABRSM and AMEB graded theory exam systems or their equivalents.
I am fluent in three languages: English, Mandarin Chinese (普通話), and Cantonese Chinese (粵語/廣東話). Additionally, I hold a valid WWVP registration.

The lessons I offer can cover all three areas: Music Theory, Composition, and Orchestration, or focus specifically on one of them. Lessons can be delivered online or face to face in English, Mandarin, or Cantonese.
I am happy to teach students of any age or musical level. Lessons are tailored to suit each student’s individual needs and goals. In other words, each student will be taught differently, with the focus ranging from essential or basic musical knowledge to specific preparation for graded written music exams such as the AMEB or ABRSM systems.
As a composer myself, I am particularly enthusiastic about teaching composition. Lessons will not only cover composition techniques but also essential skills and knowledge every composer needs. These include how to get your music performed and how to collaborate with musicians.
I am especially interested in teaching beginners with no previous knowledge, and I can patiently guide and introduce students to basic concepts and foundational skills. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who is preparing for graded theory exams, my goal is to provide personalized lessons that inspire and empower every student to achieve their musical aspirations.

I've worked as a colleague with Bob for a long while. He is always a pleasure to collaborate with and has a great attention to detail.
For me, great musicians are not rare, but it is rare to have someone who is passionate, talented, but also capable of sharing their passion and knowledge to people who are not like them, and to turn those people into someone as passionate and skilled as they are. Knowing Bob for many year, this is what I found to be what he impressed me the most.
