About Julian

QUALIFICATIONS: ABRSM Grade 6 ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory SCHOLARSHIP: Bachelor in Music - majoring in songwriting from JMC Academy Melbourne

MORE ABOUT ME:
As a kid, I've always wanted to be a musician, but learning music seemed so hard for me when I was younger, because all I was asked to do was learning to read notes, and go for exams after exams. So, although I found I really love piano, I quit my piano lesson because it was stressful and boring for me.

Until I was fortunate to find a teacher that developed my musicality, and playing piano became so much more fun! This makes me want to share it with other early beginners too, because I understand learning piano can take a long time and can be overwhelming at the start. I believe the most important thing is to be able to enjoy playing music, because if you don't enjoy it, there's no point.

As an adult, I also started piano very late in my life compared to other musicians, because my family didn't support me to pursue music. I went to business school because my parents expected me to, which I regretted later. A teacher of mine told me "If you have music within you, you cannot diminish that". That makes me decide to leave my career back home and move to Australia to pursue music after receiving a scholarship in music, with a songwriting major.

Throughout my piano lessons, I've met people who share similar stories or passion with me; people who take different career paths, but always loved music, or people who want to pick up music as a hobby to destress, or always been interested but finding it hard.

That's why I'd like to share it with you who share the same passion with me. My goal is to be a part of your musical journey, and help you start piano in an enjoyable way no matter what age, whether you're kids or adults. Everyone can learn music and there's no such thing as too early or too late.

I would love to help you reach your piano goals in a fun way, as long as you enjoy your lessons. Whether you want to pick up piano as a hobby, think to get serious, or play your favorite songs and sing along with it :)

My piano lesson is suitable for beginners to hobbyists, who want to consider if you want to pick up piano seriously, or prepare for formal lessons.

What's different in my lesson? - I teach beginners from age 5-60, using a personalized method for each student, because I believe every student has a different way of learning. - I design my own curriculum for you to be able to learn piano or then pick up any other instrument by yourself, even after you don't do lessons with me anymore.

On average, if you give a regular 6-9 months lesson with me, you'll be able to play a lot of pop songs by yourself, even without sheet music. - Most piano methods learn using reading sheet music.

While it is necessary, studying sheet music can be hard and it takes years to study it to the point it becomes enjoyable. I analyze each student's strength, and guide them through combining music reading, ear training, and include music theory to help you understand piano easier. - Most importantly, I focus on developing musicality.

I believe in building musicality from the inside, and the rest will follow.

FAQ: What levels are you teaching?
-I graduated with a Bachelor of Music, with a scholarship from JMC Academy and received my ABRSM Grade 6 certificate. Although I started with classical training and has my classical foundation, I go to uni with contemporary style as my focus. However, I want to focus on beginners and kids, as I found a lot of piano students quit lessons before they can start enjoying it, as it can be overwhelming at the start. My goal is to make you learn stress-free, but still building discipline and a consistent practice routine. I've developed my own method to help my students pick up piano at their early level, ranging from kids to adults.

You can see the example of the curriculum I design for kids here: (concealed information) (These are also available to purchase if you want to teach your kids by yourself at home, even though you don't decide to do lessons with me.

-What is your approach for kids?
I incorporate musical games, and some fun methods for kids to help them engage in piano lessons. My teaching style and goal for kids is not to push them to master the skill faster, but to make them enjoy and love music, so that they feel music is something they want to do by themselves, and not see it as something they are forced to do by their parents. I tailor my teachings based on every kid's personality.

-How about your approach for adults?
For adults, I tailor my lessons to suit their musical goals and interests, as usually adult students mostly already know what they want. But, if you're just starting and don't know where to start, I can help you introduce piano and music as your new hobby!
