About Dr Chris
- What kind of experience do you have? I have over 3000 hours tutoring experience. I have taught at Saturday schools and summer schools across London. At 'Education Means Success,' I taught GCSE maths to small classes every Saturday. More recently, I gave seventeen year old students a flavour of university-level physics at the 'Debate Chambers' summer school. This included everything from classical mechanics through to relativity and quantum field theory. I have run two courses with 'Step Into My Shoes' that took place at Imperial College and prepared students for the Physics Admission Test and the Maths Admission Test. - Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate? I have got a DBS certificate.

I am a clear, patient and positive tutor with a Master's degree in Physics from Oxford University and a PhD in quantum computers. - Which subject(s) do you teach? Specialising in maths, physics and entrance/aptitude tests, I have tutored a wide variety of students from GCSEs and A-levels to undergraduates and adult-learners. With regards to the entrance and aptitude tests, I have helped several people prepare for the MAT and PAT (i.e. the maths and physics entrance tests for Oxford University and Imperial College) and for the QTS numeracy test (i.e. the test that is one of the criteria for people to obtain qualified teacher status). I once helped a person study for a maths test for them to become a trainee pilot for commercial airlines. - Tell me about your qualifications. I have a Master's degree in Physics from Oxford University and also a PhD in quantum computers. One of the most impressive awards on my CV is the following. In 2013, I had an idea related to quantum computers that won a prestigious Bright Ideas grant for my research group. The title of the grant proposal was "Testing the computational power of discord" and it won just under £250,000 from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. - How much do you charge? I charge £100 per hour in person or £60 per hour online. - Where do you teach? I teach at the students' homes. - When are you available? I am available on weekdays during the afternoons and evenings. - Which ages and levels do you teach? I am prepared to teach anyone from the age of fourteen upwards. - Which qualifications do you prepare your students for? I prepare students for their GCSEs and A-levels as well as for university entrance tests, such as the MAT and PAT. I can also teach degree level physics and prepare adult learners for professional qualifications (e.g. I have helped several people pass their Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) numeracy exams). - Describe your arrangements for online tutoring. I can tutor on Skype. I usually use a free online interactive whiteboard that is very helpful.

Chris is very passionate about teaching, his specialist knowledge in Science and Maths enables him to tutor students at a range of levels. The in-depth knowledge gained from his Master's in Physics at Oxford University and subsequent PhD makes him uniquely skilled in his field of study. This experience combined with his friendly and reliable approach makes Chris an ideal tutor.
Chris tutored our daughter for her first year sixth form, preparing her for the physics AS level. His input was extremely beneficial, both in clarifying the concepts that she was learning about, and explaining and discussing subjects beyond the syllabus with her. My daughter achieved an A grade in her AS level this summer. Following this, Chris has been very helpful in providing us with potential tutors in chemistry this year, responding quickly and emailing colleagues on our behalf. I strongly recommend Chris as a tutor.
Chris has been and continues to be an absolutely exceptional tutor. I've been meeting him for 2 years, during which time he has helped me with a multitude of subjects, most notably Physics and Calculus. With his assistance I scored top marks on US Physics and Maths exams, and continue to learn high-level mathematics syllabi with him. Chris has consistently been available to me for questions outside of the classroom and has been an invaluable resource for further exploration of subject material. I really can't think of another teacher that I've had who has been available to me in the way that he has. I'm extremely happy to call him both a friend and a tutor, and look forward to exploring Linear Algebra with him over the upcoming summer.
I was an adult student on an Access Course when I realised that ten years prior absentia from education was really taking its toll. I used Chris as a maths tutor to help me bridge a decade long gap in knowledge in less than a year and he was outstanding. He is extremely patient and will do his best to tailor a subject to be understood by the individual. He never made me feel stupid for asking rather basic questions like "How do I do long division again?" when I was meant to be studying A Level Statistics. The amount of ground he covered in a short space of time was incredible and I will be eternally grateful. I highly recommend him. I do not know how I would have got through the course without his lessons!
Having only had 6 lessons with Chris, I was amazed at how much of a difference he was able to make in my PAT revision and I feel like without him, I wouldn't have been able to do nearly as well as I felt I did.
My daughter has had some MAT lessons with Chris and found his teaching extremely benefitial especially his step by step methods in tackling difficult questions. Chris is a very knowledgeable and experienced tutor who works with students so well so that the teaching is student centered and involves the learner rather than creating passive learning. I would highly recommend Chris and am planning to book more lessons with.him soon. If you would like to contact me please do.
Chris has helped me greatly on my journey to becoming more confident and competent in Maths and Physics. He is extremely patient and thorough in his explanations and is always there when I need help. I would recommend him to anybody who needs someone to demystify complex subjects like Maths and Physics.
I was desperate for a maths tutor to help me get through my QTS numeracy skills test which I had one final attempt left. Thank goodness I found Chris.
Chris is a fantastic maths tutor. He helped me to understand and apply the concepts of mental arithmetic by going through the various skills required. He also helped me to practice and remember my timestable. He is really patient and is outstanding in maths.
He has motivated me to continue to study maths and gain further qualifications.
Many thanks Chris. I passed my numeracy skills test and it's all thanks to you and what you taught me.He likes to help people and he did a big effort to find the best way for teach me. He showed me a lot of options for learn English and all of them are necesary and interesting.
He is patient, motivated and positive.
You will learn a lot if he tutors you.EMS is a charity organisation that provides supplementary education to Inner London young students in the form of tutoring, mentoring and outreach programmes. Chris has been tutoring KS2 up to KS4 students in Maths and Science. Chris is a very able tutor who relates to his students well. He provides bespoke lessons for each student and tailors it to their individual needs and levels. Our students have seen significant improvements in their attainments at their mainstream schools. Our students have mentioned Chris's great subjects knowledge and awareness of the curriculum and in particular in tackling exam questions and techniques. Overall we would highly recommend Chris.
Chris has proved extremely useful in our efforts to develop an extensible set of mathematical tools for an ambitious visual interface. He's reliable, enthusiastic, and easy to work with. His ability to identify/ simplify problems and apply practical solutions makes him a great candidate for any project that requires a certain level of expertise and a fresh perspective.
