About Justin
Hello, My name is Justin Li. I have a Masters's in Violin Performance from McGill University, a Bachelors's in Music, and a Minor in Business Finance from Indiana University at Bloomington. I studied both piano and violin from the age of six. My teachers were all professional musicians performing internationally, some of which include (Axel Strauss, Grigory Kaliovsky, Simin Ganatra (Pacifica Quartet), and others). In addition to my studies, I have also performed in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall (New York), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Maison Symphonique (Montreal), Roy Thompson Hall (Toronto), Hong Kong Cultural Center/City hall, Pollack Hall (McGill University), etc. In the last year of my Master's studies at McGill, I won a coveted violin section position with the Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec. I also had the opportunity to record with Steve Epstein (a grammy winning sound engineer) and to study with the world-renowned members of the Alban Berg Quartett at the McGill International String Quartet Academy in Montreal.
I look forward to sharing my expertise with you and passing on what I have learned throughout my life experience and college life.

My goal as a teacher is to perpetuate knowledge and inspire learning; more specifically, as a violin teacher, I introduce students to various techniques and repertoire to help them develop a unique voice. Being euphoric, passionate, and driven are essential elements of successful learning at any age, and I can ensure that all my students will learn without undue stress and frustration. I believe the best lessons are conducted in a flexible manner of instruction and responsive to the unique environment of a given class (whether online or in-person). I am cognizant of students' individual experiences and temperaments in hopes of developing their strengths and ameliorating their weaknesses. I believe every student, regardless of background or age, can develop and improve their ability to listen to music, understand the mechanism of the violin, and interpret a piece of music independently with proper guidance. Most importantly, the body of a musician is tantamount to that of an athlete; before playing your instrument, it is vital to perform an exhaustive warm-up to support the specific musculature required in the development of violin playing.
I follow the Suzuki method for my violin students and focus on learning rhythms and pieces orthodoxly. Students can also select their repertoire, regardless of the genre. I can adjust my teaching style to fulfill the needs of my students.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I am delighted to recommend my friend Justin Li. I studied with him on a weekly basis, and seen him perform on multiple occasions. He is hands down one of the best performers and teacher I've seen and worked with.
Justin can articulate his thoughts clearly, and has the ability to explain intricate violin techniques as he might to a young child, making my lesson enjoyable and fun. Over the course of a year, I went from someone who didn't know how to play, let a lone hold a violin correctly, to someone who can interpret music and play at a level where I can gladly present to my family and my friends.
In summary, Justin displayed the qualities that makes a phenomenal teacher. He is inspiring, dedicated to teaching, and patient. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a violin teacher who can transform your playing to another level.View more recommendations
