About Elias

Throughout my life, I've been on a magical musical journey with my piano and have loved every moment, from nerve-wracking examinations to performing in orchestras and soulful solo performances. The piano has been a huge joy from day one, and my dream is to pass on this musical spark to everyone around me!

My performance experience ranges from the following experiences:
• 2 years performing in an orchestra for the Festival of Music in Adelaide
• Performing for various fundraiser events
• Performing at various concerts at the Capri Theatre in Adelaide

My professional musical experience varies from the following:
• 18 years of playing piano and learning music theory
• High Distinction in Grade 7 AMEB for Piano for Leisure
• NCEA Level 3 for Music Studies in New Zealand
• 3 years and 6 months of experience private tutoring
• 6 months of experience working for a private piano school

I am currently working on achieving my Grade 8 in Piano for Leisure to offer more progression in examinations for students. This will also expand my musical theory knowledge and allow me to pass it down. My aim in music is to achieve the "Associate in Music, Australia Piano - Classical (AMusA)" through AMEB. I also hold a current and valid Working With Children card in WA.

About the lesson

English

Unfortunately, I have no availability at this time.

Each lesson is custom-made to fit your unique style and needs. With three years of piano teaching experience for all ages 6 and up, whether you're just starting out or already jamming. Each session is designed to boost your confidence in music theory and piano playing abilities. Each lesson will be structured to allow for an entertaining experience while allowing the student to come away learning something new.

As each lesson is different, some of the topics that could be covered are:
• Practice on songs being worked on with the possibility of learning new songs
• Learning or strengthening musical theory
• Various exercises to confidently play the piano
• Preparing for AMEB Examinations

Lessons are conducted in the lounge of my home, with plenty of seating for parents to watch or to wait for their turn if they come as a group. Each lesson is 45 minutes to maintain focus while allowing enough time to work on each aspect of musical development.

I offer lessons to prepare for the Classical and Piano for Leisure AMEB piano exam going up to Grade 7. This is not required but can be a pathway for those who desire a challenge while progressing. These examinations include the Comprehensive exam or Repertoire. If there are any questions about these examinations or if you're not sure which exam is best for you, please contact me.

If there are things that interest you with the piano, please bring them up, and we can focus on that as well to ensure you have the best experience possible.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started learning the piano from a young age of 4 years old. As time progressed, I also picked up the cello for 4 years before keeping my focus on piano. When I was 12 years old, I also started to learn the theatre organ and performed at the Capri Theatre in Adelaide, Australia. My favourite instrument is the piano but I do have a fascination with brass and woodwind instruments, specifically the saxophone.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

My favourite genre in music is Indie, however I do love to listen to Jazz. My favourite artist who I could listen to without being driven crazy is Lord Huron.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or 'riveting' lesson you could personally give to one of your students.

The most difficult lesson to give is the more in depth dive into music theory. As fun and exciting as it is to learn these important fundamentals, it can also be tricky to learn and comprehend.
The most riveting lesson however is the basic understanding of reading sheet music. There are so many different ways to learn that make it enjoyable for not only the student, but for me as the teacher.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

The voice. You really need to master control of how your vocal cords work, and control the highs and lows without straining. That is a skill.
  • What are your keys to success?

Practice makes perfect! With enough practice, anything is possible. If something is hard, break it down into small and easy steps until you are able to play the piece more comfortably and are confident to move on to the next section of the song.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Ludwig van Beethoven - I would love to know how he came up with his compositions considering he was deaf. He truly mastered the craft of musical composition.
Dizzy Gillespie - hearing about him and his life, he sounded like such a down to earth and entertaining musician. I would love to have met him to have a laugh and hear how he came up with his tunes on the spot. Jazz is truly fascinating when it comes to improvisation!
Michael Jackson - A true performer and songwriter. He sure knew how to compose and write some terrific songs! I believe many people would love to have a drink with Michael.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your musical journey, or your days at 'music school'.

As I was preparing for my Grade 7 piano exams with AMEB, I would practice everyday for at least an hour. It got to the point where when I was at school sitting at my desk, I would be tapping away against the desk the tune to each song that I was learning. Even when I was away from the piano, I was still practicing.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I listen to the needs and wants of each student. Each student has a certain style of learning and I try my hardest to shape each lesson into an exciting yet educational lesson for each of my students. I understand the woes of losing focus and interest when you don't succeed straight away so I attempt to keep things moving to keep the focus on what is being taught while also providing plenty of music so you do not get bored of the same song!
