About Martin
In school, I had two types of maths teachers. Some realised I was good at maths and allowed me to enjoy my passion for the subject. Others were frustrated that I would not complete problems the way they had taught us to. The second group of teachers failed to see that everyone's problem-solving brain works differently while the first helped me build confidence in and out of the classroom, inspiring me to try and follow in their footsteps.
I also worked at a summer camp in North Carolina (USA) for two summers and realised that working with kids is incredibly rewarding and fun. I see tutoring maths as a perfect joining of two of my passions.

With over a year of experience tutoring maths to students aged 10-18, I have found the best results come from first figuring out where a student's weak points are before finding new ways of explaining how to solve problems in that area. There is no correct way to solve each problem and finding a way that works for the student is the most important thing.
Lessons typically start with problem sets to identify weak areas, followed by worked examples and new explanations, and end with new problem sets in those areas with lots of communication to ensure the student has the tools to be confident in these areas going forward.
Most of my lessons have been for one hour, but I have also taught lessons for 30 minutes to 2 hours and am flexible with timing.
