About Sean
I am a recent graduate of the Electronic Music department at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (BMus, First Class), a multi-instrumentalist, and a publicly-exhibited digital artist with teaching experience in one-on-one and group settings. I have recorded, mixed and mastered multiple albums and EPs, and developed performance and audiovisual installation infrastructure in Ableton and Max/MSP for public-facing clients as well as for my own practice.

In my experience, teaching music is equal parts supervision and instruction. With that in mind, I hope to supervise and support students as they develop their own artistic voice, and provide instruction in and refinement of new and existing techniques in the student's repertoire. Each student's lesson format will therefore be catered to their specific needs after a consultation discussion in their first lesson. The emphasis at all times, however, will be on learning how to make use of the facilities of electronic music as tools for creative expression and art-making, a remit that encompasses music composition, sound arts, installation art, production, composition for film and visual media, etc. The topics that most students will learn include: -how to write and produce their own music -how to work with audio and MIDI in a DAW (specialisation is Ableton Live, ChucK, and Max/MSP, but most concepts are universally applicable) -how to record music at home or in a studio -how to work with programming environments to create generative and procedural music -fundamentals of music theory and sound arts as necessary

I have had Sean as my Music Tutor for nearly a year and could't be happier. He is an extremely knowledgeable person for his young age; his knowledge of music is deep and broad – from music theory and instrument-led practice to audio software, sound-processing or recording techniques.
He is very attentive and generous, and tries to understand the motivations and personal interests of his students in order to make the classes as useful as possible.Sean Norris is a fantastic tutor. Patient, astute and thouroughly amicable. Sean tutored me in coding, specifically an introduction to processing which he had desiged himself. I found the lesson plan accessible, fast paced and fascinating. What was especially good about Sean's tutoring and lesson plan, is how much context and background information he had at the ready, as a sort of optional addendum to the lesson. As someone who struggles with te abstract nature of code, and needs context to retain the information, i found this very helpful. The lessons flew by and at the end I came away with new, actionable knowledge. I highly recommend his services.
Sean is a well rounded expert in music production but more importantly a great communicator and creative thinker. When I’ve come to him with technical and creative troubles during my time at Guildhall, he’s offered up advice from both an artist’s voice and a technical expert’s voice. It’s great to talk though a project with somebody who clearly appreciates art in many forms.
