ABOUT MY LESSONS:
Effective coaching starts with understanding you. Your level, your goals, your learning style.
That’s why my lessons are always tailored. Whether you’re stuck in a rating plateau, preparing for tournaments, or finally ready to master the basics — we’ll work with a plan made just for you.
And it won’t be passive learning. You'll be actively involved — solving positions, analyzing ideas, asking questions — and improving quickly.
We can focus on:
- Building a practical, personalized opening repertoire
- Improving your positional understanding and strategic vision
- Sharpening your calculation and tactical precision
- Developing a structured thinking process during real games
- Preparing for tournaments — mentally, technically, and emotionally
- Understanding why good moves work — and how to find them yourself
No matter your age or rating, we’ll focus on what will make the biggest difference in your play — now and long term.
My coaching style
My methods are built on decades of experience, including my time as full-time coach to Super-GM Radjabov during his rise to world #4.
But whether you’re an ambitious adult, a talented kid, or someone returning to chess later in life, I bring the same dedication, structure, and clarity to every lesson.
Lessons are serious, but never rigid — and always focused on real progress.
Between lessons
I stay in touch with my students — especially during tournaments — to offer support, prep help, or just encouragement when it matters.
Languages
I teach in English or French, depending on your preference.

Igor is an excellent teacher! My son Josh loves him! He has instilled in him a love for chess, and I will be eternally grateful! Right now, he is working on bringing Josh to the next level!
A very good teacher. I have learned a lot from his instruction. I joined a club this year and even participated in my first tournament (with success). Igor has tailored an opening repertoire for me and has worked a lot with me on endgames. As a result, I feel comfortable not only in the openings but also in converting advantages. I highly recommend him
I'm delighted to be taking lessons with Igor.
I felt the need to improve my understanding of openings (I have over 2000 Elo), and thanks to him, my comprehension of openings has reached a higher level.
Moreover, my repertoire has been completely revamped. We've kept most of my openings while adding new ones. In short, nothing but happiness."I've always been a tactical player with significant positional weaknesses. Three years ago, when I got in touch with Igor, my search was very targeted, and my goal was to learn and improve drastically in this area... Well, today, I can tell you that Igor has opened my eyes to the positional aspect of chess, and I thank him for that! Next year, as soon as my son is old enough to start, I'll have him take lessons with Igor too.
My son Kevin has been taking lessons with Igor for 2 years now. The progress has been remarkable, gaining over 400 Elo points during this period and finishing in the top 10 of his age category at the last French Championships. They get along wonderfully, and Kevin constantly asks for his weekly lesson!
I've been taking lessons with Igor for 3 years now.
He's someone I adore; he's funny, lively, and extremely friendly!
He's managed to stay humble over the years. As a coach, he's the best of the best! Being a second for a player in the Top 5 worldwide for 15 years definitely helps.
Thanks to him, I've gone from 1300 Elo (Fide) to 1800 today, and our next goal is to break the 2000 Elo barrier! I highly recommend him without hesitationIgor is a longtime friend (+25 years) whom I met when he was only 15 years old. He was a high school student at the time and coached our local club in Paris. We have stayed in touch throughout all these years, and I still thank him for his kindness and availability! He has never let success get to his head despite his busy chess career, and I have gladly entrusted him with the training of my children, who still play with passion today, even though they don't compete. If you're looking for someone who deeply loves chess and has a heart as big as his, he's the person you need.
