About Amr

I’m an engineer and researcher with deep experience in applied mathematics, algorithm design, and system modeling.

I specialize in:
- Advanced calculus: gradient descent, Newton-Raphson method, multivariable analysis
- Linear algebra: Gaussian elimination, LU decomposition, eigenvalue problems
- Optimization: unconstrained and constrained methods, convex analysis
- Differential equations: analytical and numerical solutions
- Taylor series and error estimation for real-world applications

I’ve used these techniques in real research problems including machine learning, computer vision, and control systems.

My teaching focuses on deep understanding and step-by-step mastery. I explain complex ideas in a clear, structured way and always tie theory to practice.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest during the early stages of high school and tutoring has become a passion for me as I became more knowledgeable. Passing on my knowledge is an essential part of the learning cycle.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

m teaching mathematics for engineering, computer architecture and programming, and I do enjoy having an intellectual conversation about those units.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

A role model of mine is Gilbert Strang, who teaches linear algebra course at MIT. He has a methodical way of building understanding of complicated topics in simple steps.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Tailoring the teaching method to each student is crucial. Active listening and giving specific feedback on their progress are also important.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my school, I was thinking of mathematics as an abstract learning topic that is extremely difficult to understand, but at the same time, I realized that I liked programming because it teaches how to communicate ideas in a systematic way to a dummy machine that only executes them in a stepwise manner. Throughout my career, I came to a point that to build software you have to abstract the usage of the software in an easy way instead of thinking to build software for only one user but to cater for many users and many uses, and the way to do that is to use mathematics to simplify the ideas in a short and compact format of equations.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Many tutors explain mathematics in its abstract and general form, stating the equations without giving the intuition or the particular and special cases to come up with the equations, and this makes learning maths non-intuitive and very hard, although it is in fact very simple once you get the intuition behind it.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is giving back to the community of students and upcoming software engineers. I believe teaching is a critical tool in achieving this goal.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

Being dedicated to my students' growth through patience, empathy and active listening.
