About June
I am German and lived in Germany until I was 15 and then came to England where I followed my passion in the Visual Arts. I'm currently a freelance illustrator and a part-time lecturer at a college teaching drawing, concept art and media. I am also providing study skills for degree students with learning and emotional difficulties and those with Autism. I fell into teaching straight after university and found it to be the most rewarding job. My approach is to be positive and motivational, making learning fun and meaningful. I like the challenge of changing a students' negative perception of a subject. If you really believe you can do it, you're halfway there. In the 14 years I have taught at the college I have taught in a variety of courses: Art and Design (all levels), Fine Art A-Level, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, Animation Degree, Graphic Design, Fashion Promotion and I also ran the Interactive Media/Animation BTec course for 7 years. I am regularly interviewing students to come to our level 3, Foundation Diploma and degree courses and therefore know exactly what is expected. Even though I am bilingual I opted to study German at GCSE and A-Level. Therefore I have a good idea of what is expected. I am also keeping up with the changes and expectations of the curriculum. However, I hope my main focus in teaching to be in building confidence and love of the language and getting a good understanding of it. So no matter what is thrown at you in exams, you can tackle it and remember the language for many years after. I started learning English when I was 9 when I first came to England. I returned with my family to Germany after a year and then lived in England permanently from the age of 15. I had to learn the language and all the subjects for my GCSEs within 2 years. I managed to get 11 GCSEs including 6 grade As and A*s. I'm not super intelligent and had to work hard, but found strategies for learning and simply made it as much fun as possible. I have developed many teaching techniques that work and don't rely on strictness and telling off when you failed to do something. My main skills are my patience and empathetic nature. I will always adapt my teaching to the way you learn and not the other way round. I really care about the well-being of all my students which is probably the key to my success, particularly in engaging with students who may have had difficulties at school. June was my sons study skills tutor for 2 years. My son has Autism and Tourettes yet June managed to break down the barriers and communicate with him as if she had known him all her life. She worked far beyond the hours required making herself available evenings and weekends and during half terms. Nothing was too much for June and she wasn't just a support for my son but a support for me too. There is no way my son would have completed the course without her help. I would recommend June to anybody and know that any student would be lucky to have her as a tutor.
I can highly recommend June Thomas. Having known her professionally for 14 years I have observed her to be outstanding. She is honest, reliable, enthusiastic and resourceful. She has a bright and friendly disposition and is patient, caring, supportive and kind.
June is happy to put in the extra effort and is a motivational and positive person, encouraging and capable of bringing out the best in others. She relates very well with a diverse range of people and is accommodating and respectful. June is a bright, intelligent and highly creative person, she is adaptable and great at problem solving. She has exceptional communication skills. Full of energy and a zest for life, june can brighten any situation. She will be an asset to any employer.View more recommendations
