Australian and international students know the value of having a design or architecture degree delivered in English, whether it be an undergraduate diploma or bachelor or postgraduate certificate or master's degree.
This is because Australian degrees are so widely renowned for the full range of points covered in many major university courses and because the delivery of courses in English will help you find entry into the architectural, design, and building and construction sectors more easily when you graduate.
Moreover, an online or on-campus course or degree program at a renowned Australian university of design and architecture, such as UTS in Sydney or RMIT in Melbourne, which both rank highly on the international scale, can help students maximise their time while they study. This is done by going through details point by point during this degree and understanding that the credit they receive throughout the course's delivery will inspire them to create brilliant visual communication as much as it will broaden their point of view on the building in public and private space.
Before you start your architecture or design degree, before you accept your offer, before you gain entry to the course through a university admission scheme, or before you even apply for a degree or its scholarships online or on campus, you need to know what architecture is of course!
Many degrees in architecture and design in Australia have points-based requirements that you will need to show before you even apply for your program. If you don't meet these, it's unlikely you will receive an offer, even if you have prior credit.
The requirements are in place so as to show that you've got the fundamental skills necessary to be able to build on these with your learning throughout the duration of your studies.
These, understandably, are the basics of architecture that will help you view the world from a design point of view, such as information gleaned from the internal and external features of a building, light transmission in and out of the space, functionality, interaction with the landscape, materials used, and accessibility.
Whilst you're not expected to be able to master these to their full extent when you apply for entry to the degree program at the admission stage, you should be able to offer a portfolio of work that you completed in your last year or two years of school, whether this is from an Australian or international context.
A budding design or architectural studies student in Australia, whether their degree takes place online or on campus, will know that the point of their courses and the credit they will receive is of course to have an impact on the built environment.
The time you spend on your studies can vary somewhat on the delivery and communication of the program - that is to say, a student can do architectural and design studies in a more academic university setting or go course by course, certificate by certificate at TAFE.
The former will take place at an institution of high ranks such as UTS or RMIT, and given the duration of the courses, there may be the possibility to apply for a scholarship or scholarships to cover costs. The time you spend studying here is notably longer and more comprehensive, roughly 5 years in duration, and will often cover an undergraduate bachelor's degree and postgraduate master's degree in its delivery.
As for TAFE, you can find courses all over Australia that will hone your communication and design skills which can be applied to construction and building drafting, graphic design, further architectural studies, or to gain access to an undergraduate program at university.
Fees for a TAFE course are generally much lower even if you sometimes need to pay out of pocket since they are government subsidised. So if you just want to spend a year or two years checking architecture out to see if it suits you, this can be a good place to start.
So whether you want to spend your study time on a bachelor's, master's, or TAFE program with a view to a certificate, diploma, or degree, see what kind of credit you can get in your course and start to realise your architecture dream today!
