About Nola

I am a dedicated violin tutor with over 10 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education specializing in Strings – Violin. My teaching journey has led me to work with schools, community centers, and chamber groups, sharing the joy of music with students of all ages. I’ve successfully directed string ensembles, group violin classes, and youth orchestras, creating environments where students learn, grow, and perform together. Leading a section has taught me how to guide players in listening, blending, and building musical unity. I focus on ensemble dynamics, group tuning, and fostering team musicianship. I believe every student plays an important role in the collective sound, no matter their level. Through carefully designed group lessons, I help young musicians develop leadership, cooperation, and musical awareness. My approach combines individual skill-building with ensemble focus, making sure students feel confident in both solo and group settings. Watching a group of students transform into a connected, expressive ensemble is one of the greatest joys of my work. I aim to make every rehearsal meaningful and every performance a celebration. Music becomes more powerful when shared—and I’m here to help students discover that joy together.

About the lesson

Teaching violin is not just about playing notes—it's about helping each student tell their own musical story. I’ve seen many beginners struggle with posture, unsure bow holds, or feeling lost in tuning. That’s where I step in, guiding gently and patiently. I start with the basics—correct posture, relaxed grip, and clean bowing. We spend time on scales not just for discipline, but to build confidence in finger placement and intonation. Over time, I show students how to add emotion through dynamics and phrasing, turning practice into performance. Some students come in with a strong desire to express, but no structure. Others need fast progress for auditions or stage work. I tailor lessons to fit both—the quiet learner who needs encouragement and the performer who wants to shine brighter. We celebrate small wins and work steadily through the hard parts. Motivation grows when students hear their own improvement. I use storytelling in music—helping them feel the meaning behind every piece they play. Whether it's their first time holding a bow or they’re returning after a break, I walk beside them, not ahead. Together, we make music personal, joyful, and full of purpose.
