About Nathan
I have personally tutored a few people with very positive results and worked for a while at Kumon. I have also very long experience, dating back to primary school, in going out of my way to help my fellow students in almost every school subject with great success; this continues to this day in helping my fellow undergraduates at Oxford. I am formally qualified with 4A*s and very high marks at A-level, in Mathematics and Further Mathematics (OCR MEI B), Chemistry (OCR A) and Physics (AQA Option D), as well as 12 level 9s at GCSE - I was one of only 16 people in the country to achieve this in my year. I also have a very strong track record with MAT papers. As the user FShrike on the Mathematics Stack Exchange I have answered over 1200 questions almost all of which were at the university level, reaching roughly 415 thousand people at the time of writing. If you want evidence of my claims about familiarity with higher mathematics, please feel free to inspect my past answers. I love contributing to this community and I am very proud of what it has achieved and of the number of people I have helped through it. I have been academically inclined from a young age, enjoying and excelling in creative writing, foreign languages, computer science and above all mathematics. I had learnt a good portion of the mathematics GCSE by primary school, and moved into A-level calculus in years 7,8. Perhaps 'despite' that, I strongly disagree with ideas of grade superiority and will gladly help students at any level, as I have been doing for a long time now, being considered an excellent and ever-patient help to my friends. I am very passionate about education, and seriously consider it to be a part of my future career. During my sixth form years, I self-studied much university mathematics in a variety of the core undergraduate topics and I also enjoyed studying some graduate level topics such as ergodic theory, category theory, algebraic topology and simplicial homotopy theory. I have always excelled in all areas of school, except art! I have a deep love for higher mathematics and am in particular fascinated with the rigorous aspects of it, which I now fully embrace in my work. When helping people I am keen to highlight where the usual school syllabus is unrigorous, and, should the student want this, gladly dig into some tangential details to broaden the student's understanding and appreciation for what mathematics can be. These days I am an Oxford Undergraduate keen on making the most of my time here, frequently attending fourth and third year lectures (and so far being quite able to follow along!). I continue to self-study and do my own research in the areas of higher mathematics that interest me.

I am an Oxford Undergraduate offering tuition in mathematics at a variety of levels and in science at GCSE and A-level. I can also offer support with the MAT. The lessons are mostly targeted at students under 20 working through the school system or early undergraduate but anyone is welcome. The length and structure of the lessons are flexible in the range 30-90 minutes. Teaching would use the online whiteboard software Miro, which is easy to learn if you have never used it before. This software is interactive and the pupil would be fully free to draw/write as much or as little working as they like. Depending on the student's wishes, I could teach in a "course" format or help the student with the material they are already engaging with from, say, school. Again this depends on the student's wishes but my priority will usually be to ensure a firm understanding of the concepts (at the appropriate level of detail) as I believe this is fundamental to doing well in mathematics. The overall feel will not be intimidatingly formal as I am a student myself. However, the mathematics itself could be made very formal if the student so wished (this is more relevant to early undergraduate level). There are no silly questions: it is important to distinguish between "trivial" and "silly". I recognise that what is trivial for one person is certainly not trivial for another and am always happy to elaborate on something. I am very patient with questions of any nature, be they on the "syllabus" or some other area of mathematics or science. For science, I could offer support in chemistry and physics at GCSE and A-level. I have a very strong track record in the sciences at school level and have a lot of experience assisting other students in those subjects. For mathematics there is more freedom: I offer lessons at GCSE, A-level (including Further Maths) and I am very happy to go through MAT papers. If the student would like to cover (or dip their toes into) topics at university level I would possibly be able to help a great deal: this depends on the topic and would have to be discussed. I am keen to explore the deeper mathematics behind things studied in school and enjoy tangential discussions that go beyond the syllabus. I care far more about the reasons why things are true than I do about the facts themselves: students are mostly just taught to accept facts at the school level, but I am always willing to go further and explore why these 'facts' are actually facts (or, perhaps, to explore why these 'facts' are not always true and the reality is far more subtle than what is presented in school - this is a common occurrence). Those I’ve helped would say my main strengths are my warm and engaging manner, and that I am, where possible, happy to explain things in a variety of equivalent ways at a variety of different levels of detail.

Nathan tutored me throughout my A levels with maths, further maths and physics. He would always help me tackle my problems by breaking them down and going through the topic/ question step by step while still letting me use my own thinking, after this he’d explain why and how the method used to solve said question actually worked which helped my understanding and my problem solving of the topic further on. On top of this he would often find me tougher questions around the same topic to thoroughly test if I had understood his teachings at the same time being still able to answer my questions. Nathan is a very good tutor, very knowledgeable as well as patient, allowing me to feel comfortable to ask any questions that I had. 10/10 would 100% recommend !!!!!
Nathan is my partner and he is one of the kindest, most patient people I know. He is always ready and willing to help me with any problems I encounter in my maths work, and does the same for his other friends too. As well as being enormously knowledgeable in many areas of maths, he is a great teacher and is always willing to go over things again or try to reframe it if you're struggling to understand a concept.
