About Thi
I was awarded a Bachelor degree in Education (Mathematics) from Quy Nhon University in 2000 which qualifies me to teach mathematics in both junior and senior secondary schools. My postgraduate degrees, both Master and PhD also focused on Mathematics Education, have given me opportunities to developed significant expertise as a mathematics teacher. My PhD particularly involved a study of key elements of effective one-to-one teaching in the context of intervention with low-attaining students in learning mathematics that advances my understanding of teacher-student interactions and teaching practice in intensive, one-to-one intervention, as well as in classroom teaching context.

Teaching is a complex professional skill, requiring professional knowledge, empathetic understanding and a desire to motivate and lead. In teaching mathematics particularly, I have a thorough knowledge of how students learn mathematics, a strong mathematical content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge in order to teach mathematics for pre- and undergraduate students. From my experience of teaching in tertiary education in Vietnam, and at Southern Cross University, I have developed the capacity to integrate and align intended learning outcomes, with learning resources, and with learning assessment tasks. As an international academic, I also have long experience with crossing cultures and managing language challenges, and am well positioned to respond to the varied learning needs of students from different ethnic and academic ability backgrounds.
I place great value on power of the interactive dynamic of learning in the mathematical context with the development and maintenance of intellectual capital. I also see my role as a teacher to guide students in making the connections to resources, ideas and people and in doing so find and discern what they need. This experiential learning engages my students in critical thinking, problem solving and decision making in contexts that are personally relevant to them.
