About Christian
Hello! My name is Christian, and I am currently pursuing my PhD at RMIT University, conducting a creative practice research project in the field of animated documentary. Before starting my PhD studies, I was an animation lecturer for over 8 years, teaching various subjects such as art fundamentals, traditional and digital illustration, 3D and 2D animation production, and other moving image subjects at the university level. My most recent education is a Master of Animation from the University of Technology Sydney. Apart from teaching, I am also a freelance digital artist who has worked on various commercial and non-commercial projects. I have experience in 3D and 2D animation production, character modeling, product visualization, motion graphics, and illustration. (You can see my showreel below.) My passion for teaching has been built over the years. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I actively provided private tutoring in digital art for students of all ages. This passion is reflected in my teaching career at the university level. With my educational and professional experience, I am confident I can help guide you through your 3D journey.

I offer Blender lessons for everyone at different levels of experience and needs. For beginners or new users of Blender, I offer a more structured approach; we will start with getting to know the software, such as learning the user interface, various modes, and tools within the software. Every topic will be presented in a project-based approach, where students learn the method on a real project prepared by me. For a more experienced student, I offer a more flexible approach; I provide customized learning materials that cater to your needs. Whether you need help with specific projects, techniques, or problem-solving, I ensure you get the resources and guidance you need. The method I teach is the result of my knowledge gained through both industry and academic experience. I have worked on various projects across different fields, such as character modeling for animation commercials, brand mascots, 3D modeling for product and architectural visualization, and much more. I will teach you a battle-tested method to tackle any creative project you want to pursue. Regardless of whether you're new to Blender or already experienced, you can expect to learn the following topics: - Introduction to Blender software: We will explore the user interface, navigation, tools, different modes, and windows to help you get to know Blender efficiently. - Modeling techniques: I will teach you efficient techniques to model various objects, focusing on the right topology for each model’s specific needs. This ensures both efficiency and beautiful, detailed results. - UV and Texturing: I will teach you how to UV map your models and introduce various texturing techniques in Blender, including using external software such as Photoshop and 3D Substance Painter. Additionally, you'll learn about vertex painting as an alternative texturing method, helping you understand the difference between these approaches. - Material shading: I will teach you how to create and apply materials in Blender using shaders to define the look and feel of your model’s surface. You’ll learn how to adjust properties like glossiness, roughness, and transparency to create realistic materials, and explore PBR (Physically Based Rendering) techniques for achieving even more realistic results in your textures and lighting. - Lighting and rendering: You’ll learn how to set up lighting in Blender to enhance your models and achieve the desired mood. I’ll also teach you rendering techniques to bring your scenes to life, optimizing settings for high-quality output, whether for animation or static images. We will explore both Eevee and Cycles rendering engines, discussing where each excels and how to utilize them effectively for different projects. Additionally, I will guide you through the compositing process, showing you how to enhance your renders with post-processing effects to achieve the final polished look. - Sculpting: I will teach you various techniques to do 3D sculpting in Blender. We will utilize Blender's sculpting tool to create appealing 3D sculpting projects. - Retopology: I will teach you the process of retopology, ensuring that your sculpted models have clean, efficient topology. This step ensures your model performs well in any project. You will also learn how to bake details from your high-poly model onto the retopologized mesh. - Simple rigging for posing: I will teach you basic rigging techniques for posing your models to make the presentation more appealing. I have over 8 years of experience teaching animation at the university level, covering various subjects such as 3D Visualization, Animation, and Traditional and Digital Illustration. I teach with a focus on caring for my students, helping them maximize their potential. On several occasions, I have also had the opportunity to provide professional training for industry workers.
