About Phil
As I have said, I am a retired Yr. 7 - Yr. 12 Maths teacher of more than 30 years experience.
I loved my job, mainly because students seemed to enjoy being in my classes. I believe I am patient and understanding while also being highly skilled in the area of Mathematics.
I think, somewhat unusually for a Maths teacher, my English skills are also very good, enabling me to impart my knowledge and assist in an easily understandable way.
I am prepared to bring any extra materials, online or other, if I think it might help with further understanding. I am, however, well aware of overburdening students, and know that a happy, relaxed student is more likely to learn than a tired one.
I think I have a relaxed, confident personality that will enable students to shine and achieve their best.

One on one was my strength as a teacher and will be as a tutor. I taught Maths for over 30 years, tutoring outside school on occasions. I was always available for students after school in voluntary tuition classes.
These Homework clubs were very popular with students as it gave them a chance to get help with difficult problems or to reinforce what had been taught that day or week.
I would try to connect what has been taught in the classroom with the problems that we are solving so that students can see the connection and the need to focus in class as much as possible. There are often gaps however and I will look for those so that future work is not hindered by these gaps in knowledge.
Hopefully the whole process will be enjoyable and I can take the stress out of Maths that some students experience.
