About Haider

Hi Struggling friends!

I hope you are hanging in there. I am a 2019 Duke University- Fuqua School of Business, Master of Management Studies Graduate. I cleared my SAT exam with a very high score in the Math section and GMAT exam with 47/50 in Quant Section. Since 2012, I have been tutoring, mentoring and helping middle school, high school and undergraduate students achieve their desired grades. I strongly believe my grip and knowledge in Mathematics is very strong.

Over the years, my concepts and teaching style for this discipline has been polished a lot and now I possess the ability to effectively pass on my knowledge to my students. I prefer one on one tutoring sessions with my students because it truly helps me identify their problems and understand why they are struggling with the discipline. Also, it helps me gauge their knowledge in the discipline.

My teaching style is slightly different than the modern style of teaching which involves throwing a lot of the burden on the students in terms of learning on their own from textbooks and notes. I strongly believe that it is an absolute must that a strong foundation in a discipline is made before the student is challenged. Therefore, I do a lot of spoon feeding till the time I am confident that my students have built a solid foundation and grasped the concepts. From there, I take the modern style approach and take my students to deep waters where they are challenged and build confidence in the discipline.

Whenever I take any student on board I provide them with content, notes and questions which I developed over the past 10 years. I have a lot of math problems solved with me. Also, I have compiled a lot of study material and notes. I believe studying 1 hour a day could make you an exceptional math problem solver. I require hard work and patience from your end. Furthermore, I have few formal teaching experiences in which I taught SAT Math section classes to a classroom of 50 plus students.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

Ever since I was a child, math held a special place in my heart. The clarity and structure it brought to problem-solving fascinated me. But it wasn't until a decade ago, when a neighbor reached out, asking if I could help their child with math, that I considered tutoring. I remember sitting down with that first student, watching as the concepts started to click for them. That moment, seeing their confidence grow, sparked something in me.

I realized that one-on-one tutoring offered a unique chance to tailor my approach to each student's needs, to really dig into their strengths and build on them. As I continued, each student's progress felt like a small victory, and I saw firsthand how powerful personalized learning could be. It was then that I decided to make tutoring my full-time focus, knowing that I could make a real difference in how students experience and understand math.

Since then, I've had the joy of guiding students across all grades, witnessing their breakthroughs and helping them develop a love for the subject.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I love teaching from middle school to SAT Exam level. Some of the topics I really enjoy teaching include Arithmetic, Algebra, Calculus and Functions. The topics I find difficult to explain to my students include Geometric Proofs and Set Theory.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

When I first started exploring my passion for math, I met a teacher who completely transformed my view of teaching. She was the kind of teacher who saw every student as unique and approached each problem with boundless patience. I remember watching her tackle difficult concepts with ease, using relatable examples and always showing genuine excitement whenever a student made a breakthrough.

Her passion for math was contagious, but what struck me most was her dedication to her students. She had an uncanny ability to make each of us feel confident, regardless of where we started. I knew then that I wanted to be that kind of mentor-someone who inspires confidence and makes learning a joyful experience. She's the reason I'm here today, following in her footsteps, hoping to make the same impact on my students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Three essential qualities for a good math tutor are:

Patience: Math concepts can take time to grasp, and students may need multiple explanations or approaches before they understand. A patient tutor creates a supportive learning environment, allowing students to learn at their own pace.

Strong Communication Skills: A good math tutor should be able to explain complex concepts in clear, simple terms. This includes breaking down difficult problems into manageable steps and using relatable examples to make ideas more accessible.

Adaptability: Each student has a unique learning style, so it's crucial for a tutor to adapt their approach based on the student's needs. Being flexible in teaching methods and finding new ways to explain topics ensures that the student can connect with the material.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Once, I was helping a friend of mine who struggled with algebra, feeling lost and frustrated. I broke down a problem step-by-step, using real-life examples he could relate to. Suddenly, his face lit up as he finally understood. That "aha" moment really gave me a great feeling.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One challenge I sometimes face is helping students overcome math anxiety. Many students feel defeated before even attempting a problem. Therefore, I had to learn creative ways to boost their confidence, breaking down problems into manageable steps and celebrating small wins to make math feel less intimidating. Helping each student build a positive mindset is something I still focus on every day.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My true passion lies in making math accessible and enjoyable for students who might otherwise struggle with it. I love seeing them reach that "aha" moment, where everything clicks, and they gain confidence. It's not just about teaching math but about helping students realize their potential and develop a lifelong appreciation for learning.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

My ability to break down complex concepts into simple, relatable steps. I approach problems from different angles until I find a method that resonates with the student, ensuring they truly understand. Plus, I'm patient and persistent-I won't give up until the student feels confident.
